I haven't been around much lately, and I just took a look at the "For Sale"
site. Wow! So much Paris stuff for sale! It made me wonder... Who (or
is it "whom"?), besides me, is still using Paris as their main system? I'm
getting pretty frustrated about not being able to use most of the new plugins.
I have to dive into PT (LE) or Digital Performer to do some of the more
modern tricks, and then import files back to Paris. But it still sounds
SOOOO good to me. I have a client who moved here from New Orleans after
Katrina. He had done a bunch of recording in a studio there (he is pretty
much a techno-phobe, so he doesn't know what format) and he says the quality
of the ruff mixes from my little Paris studio kills the stuff he did down
there. He says he's just gonna have to record it all again here.
Anyway... If I knew what I could get that'd sound as good (and that I could
afford!) I'd switch, but for now, I'm still a Paris dude.

I'm here for a loooooooooong time to come.
Got no reason to change, every reason to stay. Everyone else is chasing
ghosts, IMO.
I'm sorta stocked-up on parts, will probably add to the cache as things get
even cheaper.

I'm definitely not going any where! A two system set up is the way to go
if you want to do all the tricks, IMHO. No matter what digital system you
buy, it will be considered out of date before you know it. Better to invest
in the best analog gear, like high quality mic pres and compressors, than
another DAW. As long as the industry standards are 16bit 44.1, MP3, and
Paris sounds good, there is no good reason for me to switch. I can make
a great recording with Paris, and I already own it!
If I was going to blow 30K, I would rather invest it for my retirement.
The only reason I would get in to a full blown PT rig, is if I was running
a commercial studio in a major market, and I'd be losing business if I didn't.
If that was the situation, I would lease and write it off as a business
expense. No need here.

Never got the multi-MEC thing working, even with Doug's eternally =
gracious help.
But I finally realized I didn't need it.=20
And Paris sounds better with an external wordclock anyway.=20
I just reassign submixes for tracking purposes.

Not a chance here--I have learned to make the thing
work in my favor, actually. I have had lots of people
call me cause they hear about my "protools killing"
system :) .
I have a 3 card track/overdub system and a
5 card mix system. I keep a PT 002R on hand to facilitate
transfers and the like and the occasional remote overdub,
but it is 99% Paris for me, and not likely to change
anytime soon.

Not me Gantt. I just finished mixing a track of a live recording that just
sounds so extraordinary, I'd have to be led away from Paris at gunpoint. The
more I use the system the more I'm amazed at how good it really sounds. I
see no need to move anywhere, period. Familiarity breeds contempt, but not
so for me and Paris.

I feel the same way after having used Paris and SX side by side for over two
years now. Paris is just so much easier to track with, to quickly nail the
sound I'm looking for and is so forgiving when mixing. I use RME and Mytek
converters from time to time, but to tell the truth, I *choose* to use the
Paris converters more often than not these days. With an external clock,
they sound just as good to my ears.

No Way. It's my "secret sauce". I've aquired a reputation of getting fatter,
wider mixes than bigger commercial (all using protools)in my area. I won't
give up till I have to.

I'm not going anywhere on it. I, like many others am, however using another
computer setup to get more current features/work done.
Somehow none of the new whiz bang toys sound the same though, w/o the Paris
mixbus *vibe* filter.

Same here - added a spare Mec and eds card just in case... system is stable,
sounds good and is easy to work with (less some of the latest features -
can we say mi mi midi - but hey that's what a second system is for)... Current
bang for the buck is unbelivable.

I'm hanging on to one small system to archive or update any of my old files
and recordings. I agree that the Paris system sounds great.....better than
Pro Tools. However after trying Nuendo 3 for my most recent projects I was
blown away by the quality and tons of added features Nuendo has to offer.
With no support for Paris, I need to to look forward....just for business
sake. Win 98 is no longer supported,and XP is starting to act up with Paris.
Xp drivers worked great for a while...however...Paris has been locking up
on me quite frequently with service pack 2 and any or all the XP updating
that needs to be done to my computer. With less and less support from the
duddes on this website, I have no choice but to upgrade. It was awesome
while it lasted.
Good luck to you on your future projects. As long as PAris works for you,
keep on rockin'!

Hardly ever time to post the past few years or so, but still visiting several
times a week. My computer-based, media/graphic design teaching job kind of
kills my computer-based creativity after a long day in the media arts classroom.
But, this summer, I'm planning on finishing up a major project for a great
singer-songwriter from NC. Then maybe get back to my own stuff while I'm
on a roll.
No, I'm definitely not going anywhere at all. But maybe sideways ;-) into
DP or Logic eventually—if I need to—for MIDI and maybe some other ocassional
goodies.
Yeah, PARIS is still the place for me fer sure. (User since '98. One MEC,
two EDS cards, two c-16s. Mac running v.2.)
