ady have a digital
piano, a decent basic analog synth, and a nice harsh 12 bit sampler. ;o)
I'm thinking of getting a little rack mount MIDI box to make some more interesting
wierd off-beat sounds. I was thinking of adding a Roland JV-1010, but I'm
thinking those sounds will be more "standard". I'm keen to have some less
usual sounds in the arsenal.
Anybody know a nice, preferably cheap, option for some kooky interesting
synth sounds?
Cheers,

Starting with a good piano in a good room:
Lid on but open.
B&K 4011 pair about 5 feet from piano and 5 feet apart.
Good fast pre like John Hardy Twin Servo or GML.
Move 1 mic carefully while listening for best phase relationship and sound.
(Small moves)
A phase scope always helps with this kind of critical pair setup.
This is less in your face than modern super-stereo-direct-over-strings
sound, but big and real sounding.
