New .paf-compatible app discovery - Meyer Sound's AudioMove (Mac OSX/PC/Linux) [message #109166] |

Hey folks - I just discovered Meyer Sounds's AudioMove and added it to the paf compatibility thread. AudioMove is a libsndfile based (hence paf compatible) batch audio conversion utility for Linux, Mac OSX and WinXP and later. It reads .paf and outputs WAV, OGG, FLAC and AIFF. Although it seems it was last updated in 2009 it works great today - very fast translation from .paf. I'll be contacting the devs to see if we can get .paf writing ability too for the sake of completeness. I'll do some testing to see if we can strip off those pesky BWF headers that PARIS dislikes so much and if it doesn't I'll ask them for it; it'd be a great replacement for StripWav.

Just had a very satisfactory email chat with Jeremy, the developer of AudioMove, asking if he could add two PARIS-community-specific features to AudioMove:
1) to add the ability to *write* .paf files to AudioMove as well so it works both ways (also with a checkbox for endian-ness so we can get past the whole Mac/PC 24-bit paf issue)
2) a checkbox to strip off the BWF headers from the .wav files it creates (e.g. so we can grow past having to use StripWav).
Jeremy said they "should be easy enough to add" so he's going to add them in and send me a test executable in the next few days, and if that goes well he'll release an updated version with the new features. Armed with those two additions we'll have a modern batch utility that can handle large amounts of files at once, is scriptable from the command line and neatly bypasses several longstanding PARIS headaches.
Woooot - with the release of de-Paced PARIS 3.01, Matthias's rewrite of the libsndfile extension giving us direct read/write of paf files in Reaper, a great new audio utility to tidy our files, and soon to come, Michael's amazing ASIO driver (you are going to flip when you check it out), 2016 is shaping up to be a great year for PARIS (and it's only May yet)!
