I love UAD1 plugs, BUT... I think they need to start combining their
stuff into fewer products. Most companies would have a Precision
Limiter, Maximizer and Buss compressor 9don't they all do the same
thing?) in one unit - and maybe even the Multiband too.

Man I wish that would work with Paris. The transient designer would come
in handy

There's a hardware unit FS on EBay.

I don't think they are all that expensive new, but for how often I would
probably use it, I'd rather get the plug.

I used mine on every mix on the kick and snare. Sometimes on bass too if the
bass lines weren't too busy.

SO, you can shorten the ring of a kick hit?

OYeah!!!..or sustain it almost infinitely. It's basically a "punch a hole in
the wall" kinda box.

Not quite. Most buss compressors are emulations of either the SSL (Quad Compressor-Buss
compressor)or the Fairchild 670. These compressors do one thing and one thing
well and that is glue together a mix..Some may even descibe it as, they narrow
the stereo feild at bit and holds a tight grip on a mix. Where as a maximizer
does not "glue " a mix, but let's you get loud. The Multiband, is really
more an clever eq ,but lets you compressor different bands..

The term precision limiter is a new term for me. I think this kind of Compressor
combines the Maximixer capabilities along with Intelligent Limiter (alas
Paris). To alow some harmonic distortion in a smooth way, but not overs..

Bill....I agree with you, they are all the same thing, just models of
different circuits with their respective behaviors..Until someone in this
can point me to the white papers of the models used for these emulations ill
make my own judgments.
its about the money and getting reimbursed for their R&D.

I sold mine last week. With Paris, the hardware TD 4 is a pretty awesome
processor to have in the arsenal.

However, using it at mixdown on drums would be a PITA due to the latency
issue.

I was thinking it would be great for a synth string track I just did to make
the tail more natural

Just fade out the waveform; or copy part of it, paste it to
extend if you need to do that, crossfade that portion, then
fadeout the end.

There, I just saved you 500 bucks on an outboard box lol!

I/O latency on the TD is 0.81ms.

SPL TD, and I have a PCI-E slot open in the Mothership? Looks like there's

Yes, and there are software options too. But I'm treating Pulsar like PARIS,
great sounding gear that has essentially been obsoleted by the manufacturer.
I own a bunch of the John Bowen synths and some cool plugs for it, and it's
a fine mixer/router/patcher, but if I can get the same sound on UAD (I think
one of the companies with the brightest futures in the audio biz) over Pulsar,
I'd be foolish to go any other way.

Sonnox has a Transient Modulator for Powercore. I think they have one for
native as well. Waves TransX is supposed to be able to do something similar,
but my bets are on UA. In fact, they are so much on UA that I sold my
hardware TD4 last week.
