I've got these downloaded and will test them against my hardware unit. By all accounts from people who have given them a go, they are pretty stellar. I still think Casey may have shot himself in the foot a bit for giving Acousticas the ok on this, but hey, it's great.. That GS thread on this was a bit weird though (aren't they all though ).
Cheers,
TC

LOL. It was the Reaper forum rather than Gearslutz, but same diff. On the Reaper forums, saying that one DAW "sounds better" than another causes instant nuclear warfare, since some of the louder mouths in the Reaper community seem to be convinced that it's been proven beyond any possible doubt that every DAW sounds precisely the same. Claiming otherwise is simply proof positive to them that you're irrational and your ears are painted on the sides of your head ;D
Aside from that, they're quite nice chaps.

For a lot of commercial work nowadays (thinking about work I've done in film/TV) mixing "in the box" is really the only option. It's all about efficiency; outboard gear is a layer of complication to be bypassed whenever possible, since the client most often doesn't have the ears to tell the difference anyway. So there's distinct markets there - and if they hadn't released them, someone would have soon enough.
Myself, I like "efficient", but I'm not interested in raising it to the level of a goal in and of itself. It's something that's nice to consider after you've taken care of the more important stuff.
As to the very well reasoned and scholarly arguments that demonstrate why all DAWs *must* sound the same, all I can do is say E pur si muove.

I hear what you're saying, but I still like using my outboard. Your work always sounds great anyway so it probably doesn't matter as much to you, but I honestly need all the help I can get . In the case of the Bricasti, there's 4 quick "favorite settings" recall buttons on the front, and I find it honestly as hassle free as any reverb plugin to use in a mix and do recall later. Software implementation like the PCM 96 would be great, but that probably won't happen for the M7. I'm been writing music this past week for a tv show, and am mixing tonight, and I'd hate to do it without my M7.. it's just really great at creating natural space around things..

A pleasure - I've been using them in Space Designer in Logic 8 and I gotta tell you, it's a revelation. I find they make their own place in a mix far more easily than the stock impulses.
I've been looking at trying them in SIR.
Heh - a thought just crossed my mind - I wonder if it's feasible to code an EDS convolution plug? That'd be an interesting addition.
