Hi Ed, I don't see how you could implement into Paris. I would look at the
Tascam DM3200/4800 mixers..They have the multi adat I/O that old be great
for PAris ..

Hi Wayne,
I am not new to Paris and have been using it for many years. I just happened
to see a decent price for digital mixer and without looking at the specs,
I posted to see if someone else was using it. But since it has no direct
outs, to me it is worthless as a front-end.
Having said that... I have lots of Behinger mixers and I have not had
very much luck using any of them as front ends. Mainly the problem of getting
proper hot levels. The consistency between playback (usually max'd level)
and the open channels... it seems the open channels (channels being played
to be recorded) are so loud... but what is hitting Paris is so low... I
end up nearly throwing the thing out the window!
I am at work and don't have the model numbers, but I tried many behingers...
none seem to work. I was also using Behinger products to mic my acoustic
drumset. Until I recently purchased a small $99 Yahmaha mixer, I didn't
realize what a difference it would make in sound. So I am happy with that.
The conclusion is that I now have lots of Behinger mixers that I don't
like to use except playback (master outs). I can't seem to find a decent
front-end mixer to operate like I need it to operate... again, mainly getting
the levels I need. So I end up sending preamps and other devices directly
into my Paris 8-in cards. I still am not too happy about the levels.. but
it works better than any mixer I tried as a front end -- so far. That's
why I am keeping my eye open for something (within reason). I don't need
built-in preamps since I use external ones... but all the mackies and yamahas
promote that. I can't believe they'll match my external focusrite preamps.
I hate to pay so much for a mixer that may not work the way I need it to
work. I asked several times on here for suggestions of known working front-ends.
I never got any good suggestions.
Sorry to blabber... but I was trying to explain why I posted that first
thread... call it pre e-post-ulation... lol.

Hi Mike,
OK. Understood. I use a Mackie 1604vlz for up to seven instruments or
backing vox via the direct outs and into my 1st Paris 8 in card, and a
Personus Eureka mic pre on my main vox into the last channel of the 1st
Paris 8-in. Then the Roland session kit 8 direct outs directly to the 2nd
Paris 8 in for a total of 16 tracks. That's my max tracking capability.
Something I learned last year is that the 1604vlz pre's are harsh and a bit
muddy. I couldn't tell and didn't notice it until I purchased a Big Ben
clock and a Benchmark DAC. I run a single MEC systems with two 8-ins, 2 EDS
and 2 C16s. I did some A/B testing of the DAC outputs vs the mackie channel
15 and 16 playback. It was easily obvious. So now I only use the front end
for tracking. It's what I've got to do. I've had the board for 10+yrs and
is in pristine condition so it's hard for me to replace it with multiple mic
pres but I am considering.
Have a great day.
