When I looked at the way I actually worked, it turned out that I was going
out of DP to hardware and returning to DP for most of my critical channels.
In fact for some mixes, I was going out and back on almost every track. Sometimes
I froze the tracks so I could utilize my best converters, and sometimes I
set the loops up during mixdown. The point is I was making an additional
A/D, D/A pass on almost every track.

New Method.
With the realization that I was making the extra conversions anyway I switched
to:
Analog out of DP.
Hardware EQs and effects after the DP outputs when needed, then analog back
into Paris.
This turns out to be the same amount

of conversions but allows me to work
in DP at 96K.
I uses a combination of my Mytek 8X96 8 channel D/A plus my 2408MKIIIs for
D/A, and my Mytek 8X96 8 channel A/D plus my Paris 24bit cards back in.
I usually pick the most critical channels for the Myteks but I sometimes
prefer the warmth and softening of the Paris converters.

So now I have the 96K sound that I like along with the Paris Mix engine at
44.1.
The small quality reduction I occasionally thought I heard using 20bit optical
is gone.
The extra conversion is not extra after all.

You may know that some mastering engineers use this method to convert to
44.1 rather then use software samplerate conversion. No Dither.

I may try to hybridize this to allow some channels to remain digital. That
is the next step.

That’s why I am going to try to hybridize it. The Mytek converters are very
expensive for 48X48! Ouch.
I’m hopping for 24 analog and 24 D/D via ADAT. This will require a parallel
source DAW or a real-time 96K>44.1 multi channel samplerate converter with
ADAT output.
I think I may be able to force my Klotz converter to do the conversion to
DASH and then use some of my old Yamaha gear to switch to ADAT. If it works,
I am putting myself in for the wacky setup award. When the Klotz was built
the high end was 48K, but it is rated to 100K with an external clock if my
memory is correct. Trouble is I don’t have a manual and Klotz in Germany
has not helped, and programming it is a pain with the mini DIP switches.
Time will tell.Of course using the disk as indicated by the other guys will allow the keyboard
to boot up, but it still wont have any actual sounds in it. You'll either
have to sample some sounds yourself, or aquire some disks with sounds on
them to use with it.

Cheers,
Kim.

The sheer audacious geekery of this is giving me goosebumps. I am green with
envy.

Hey guys,

Well, I just had to pop up a pic of this. :-) I started building this
last month when the DM2K arrived, now I just finished assembling it.
I still have a lot of fill 'n finish to do, but it's up and running!

For those who are curious, I have detailed photos of every step. I
will put them up on a page when time permits.

Happy Thanksgiving to our southern neighbors!

David.
