Don't know what happened, who placed the straw that broke the
camel's back, but in case you haven't noticed it, this newsgroup
is now officially dead meat/jumped the shark/gone off the deep
end.
For anyone who would like to keep in touch with me to chat
about anything music or recording-related, my e-mail address is:
neil DOT henderson AT sbcglobal DOT net
....but i'm definitely not going to waste my time here anymore.
Adios.

Hey you guys, don't read every post here.
There's no time for that.
Neil take it easy and stop in once in a while

Hey Neil,
This will all die down shortly, don't worry. I'm part of the straw in this
case and feel a teensy bit bad. Not much, mind, because I just made a pretty
harmless joke and someone, I have NO idea who, went postal.
This is a really low traffic group, though, so your input (and microphone
castoffs) would be very much missed. Drop back after a bit and I don't think
you'll be any the worse.

What's the matter Neal, you can dish it out but you can't take it? So now
your going to take your ball and go home?
Here is my suggestion, don't mock people, don't put people down, and don't
insult people and it won't happen to you!
If you guys don't want this NG to go to hell, try a little more tolerance,
and a little more respect. Try to resist insulting and piling on others.
The smartasses may have their laughs and have their fun, but just remember
this, it's easy to mock, insult and put down others, but it will destroy
this NG. The choice IS up to you guys.

I don't recall posting a bunch of sarcastic, personal, attack rants in all
caps under a fake name. Though I am doubtless a smartass I'm an honorable
one at least, and have never done anything like that.
So someone else 'started it' IHMO,

Thad, you started this by mocking me, by posting "Microsoft committed to Office."
My Post "Apple committed to Final Cut" was the headline from the news article,
if you would have read it. I posted it because it was discussed here and
some people had concerns about it. There can no longer be any posts where
anything Mac or Apple related is mentioned without you mocking, trashing
or bashing. it's gotten personal, I recommend you stop!

Funny you mention that, James, because I was just thinking about that. In
all of the years I have read this NG I have NEVER, not once, said anything
bad about someone personally, with one exception. The exception isn't you,
it's DC. Oddly enough, I suspect DC and I would get along pretty well in
person. Usually the people I get along with online are the same that I get
along with offline, but in Don's case I suspect he has a sense of humor that
doesn't come through in his writing. I deplore the way he conducts himself
online, though, and said so, in pretty blunt terms.
However, in your case I have never said a thing about you personally. I never
said BOW DOWN BEFORE JAMES GREAT GENIUS OF ALL THINGS APPLE and so on and
so forth. The fact is that _someone_ did that about me. Since I can't confirm
who did that I'm going to pretend I don't know the responsible party, and
it's not a huge deal anyway. My skin is pretty thick.

Thad, it doesn't matter if you are directly or indirectly insulting, it's
getting personal! You have mocked me. If seems that you have something
to say about everything, when it comes to Mac related posts, especially if
they are from me. You have an axe to grind when it comes to Macs. You don't
use Macs, your experience is lacking, yet you Mac bash as if you know what
you are talking about. This is not about Macs, now is it?
I am no genius when it comes to all things Apple, but you are mocking me
again!

Deej, if you will take notice, I have NOT posted anything trashing MS in quite
some time. You and John and others have posted Mac bashing videos in resent
times. so who's starting it? I let it go. I can take a little ribbing
from time to time, but it is now getting personal.
If you go way back, and your honest and objective, you'll see that people
here on this NG were bashing Macs before I ever started on MS. I've quit.
In recent times I have only post information about what's going on with
MS, you read the articles and you decide. I've tried to lay off, but I think
Vista is a debacle right now, I'm sure MS will fix it in time.
I see Mac OSX being a better alternative to Vista right now, and you can
build a dual quad core for about $600.00 to run it. I've wanted to post
about it specifically for you, but I didn't because I thought you would take
it wrong and be insulted buy my suggestion, and I thought it would start
a bunch of shit. You see, I feel I can no longer post anything that is mac
related with out being attacked. Have you seen me attack every post that
is MS or Vista related recently?
Don't forget I also use Windows XP also, not just Macs.
I think SOME people should consider what they post, things have gotten personal
and insulting. Have you seen Dedric around here in a while? Someone basically
called him a racist, he's out of here! All of us should think where this
is going. We all have something to contribute to the NG. some people may
not be in to the Mac stuff, but they don't have to jump in and comment on
it if it doesn't concern them. It's not once in a while, it's every time.
The Mac bashing and the mocking needs to stop!

It's funny - I was mostly sticking around because I've grown fond (in an internet
newsgroup sort of way) of some members of this community and like to see
what they're up to but lately there's actually been some interesting Paris-related
content, thanks, in no small part, to Kerry Galloway's sudden re-emergence
and his new interest in archiving Paris info. The Paris Wiki may or may
not be too little too late for many of us but it's been a source of hope
for me. I still us Paris on a day-to-day basis to make my living and I'm
grateful to all of you who continue to contribute to this group.
As far as straws breaking camel's backs goes... There is a certain amount
of joking around and friendly teasing that goes on here. It sometimes gets
taken personally when I don't think it's intended to offend. I've been there
and done that in the 'General' group. What I had hoped would be some intelligent
discussion became pretty ugly and I finally had to walk away. It's too bad
that stuff like that happens sometimes. None the less, I keep coming back
to this group on a daily basis. Neil - I hope you change your mind and stick
around.

It's the comments like these James, that cause the friction in this group.
We don't care about platforms...who gives a s##t ?
I use both, and now prefer one over the other...but I'm not bigoted about
it..
Chill out and lets get on with meaningful (???) conversation on this group.
BTW, don't go Neil..

I think in my particular case, it has become more like a joke. I never meant
to hurt your feelings. Really. When we get into the MS vs Apple stuff, I'm
never totally serious. I'm sorry man. My passion for this stuff only goes
as far as how cheap I can make it and still have it do what I need it to

Well, I think that Macs, are overblown cult objects, but now that they are
somewhat competitive with PC's in price and functionality, I'm going into
withdrawal because I can no longer get my self riteousness fix, except by
taking a trip down memory lane. :)

If they'd just come down on their RAM prices and I could slap that little
smartass in the commercial around once or twice, I'd probably like Macs again.

Come on James, as far as I can see, noone have insulting you at all here,
just that someone, as me too, seems to see you're
doing it extremely well to serve us most of the Macstuff you're coming over
on the net. It's just some of the facts here, that we all are observing each
others writings and have allways tried to be tolerating, to be some more
thickskinned after all these years with people we have learned to call
friends, with both positive and negative things to serve in the writings
here. So James, as a friend, so far away but so near on the net; for me, it
seems you still have problems to get some more thick skinn on your
thinskinned net-body.
Statistical, when looking at the general site, it seems that you have
started nearly half of all the subjects there since June 07. So my
observings says me that you're the biggest "loverwriter" here;-)

You once said you won't use a mac because you can't tweak it. There are
guys that are running 2.4 GHz Q6600 hackintoshs machines and are over-clocking
them to 3.3GHz and there stable. I'm sure you don't care, and that's fine,
I just thought I'd mention it.
As you have said, you'll never use a Mac, that's fine by me! As I've said,
use what works for you.

I'm one of "those guys" , but I don't class myself as using a MAC.
I use the MAC OS because for me, at the moment, I like the way it feels,

I also run Soundtrack pro because a lot of my clients use FCP and it's
convenient for them if I can work on their files directly.
Saying people are tweaking "Hackintoshes" isn't really comparable to saying
your tweaking a MAC though.
There wouldn't be too many, (if any) people actually tweaking a MAC.

What interests me in all this is remembering a certain other fellow
(someone once called "the list pothead") who was also volatile and
would follow people he did not like and post mildly harassing comments
now and then.
We learned to not engage him on his favorite trigger issues.
It worked, and we mostly got along.
Well, if James ain't got it now, he ain't gonna get it. He did not come
up in the studio world back in the 70's and 80's like some of us, and
never learned that cheerleading for a brand immediately marked you
as a civilian. Now, I am not talking about telling another engineer
to check out a mic pre, I am talking about engaging working professionals
in bitter disputes of one brand vs. another. Studio guys simply don't
DO that. It's like the Ford vs. Chevy guys! I cannot imagine anything
more boring. As a 2nd engineer in a major facility back in 1980, if you
hammered some other engineer about how (say) Quad-Eight desks
RULE and Harrisons SUCK, and you lost your sense of humor and
professional attitude, you would (if they liked you) get a stern lecture
about how we don't CARE about brand loyalty, we only care about
results. If you did it again, you would be shown the door.
Well, times have changed, and now we use consumer hardware to
do professional work (like everyone else does) and the consumer
brand-loyalty thing jumps right into our business, and it REEKS.
I fuggin' hate it.
James understands the negative fact that we hate it, but he does not
understand the positive reasons why we don't DO that.
Ok, so I am going to try this once more, and James, if you pay attention
you can remove yourself from the center of this sh*storm.
There are all kinds of wonderful people making wonderful recordings
with different gear than mine, and even different platforms. I don't
want them to not talk to me because they think I am not a pro and
care more about brands than talent.
I care about music, not platforms. It's that simple.
Now, what about the mac bashing? Well that has been going on since the
early 90's or so when the pc people would predict the demise of Apple
every few weeks, and some IT directors would try to ban macs from the
building. ho-hum, they failed. Big time. Apple is firmly established
as the BMW of comp builders for both good and bad. So the bashing is
largely impotent pecker-waving by the jealous, and some of it is legit
from people who can get more performance for less money elsewhere.
(like buying a Vette instead of a 540)
Who the fugg cares?
Now James, you owe a bunch of people here (not Thad!) an apology,
and I suggest you leave Thad alone since you are just encouraging
his worst instincts...
Or you can never be a part of the community of engineers.
It's up to you, but I think you can do better.
