................and works perfectly. I was really surprised first of all that
it even worked since this CPU is not approved for my mobo and secondly I was
surprised at the quickness with which everything loads as compared to my
previous CPU. It is noticable and significant. For those of you who are
running native rigs on 939, mobos, you might want to give this a look. 2 x
2.6GHz cores for a total of 5.2 GHz of processing power with a properly
threaded app. I paid $313.00 for this at Newegg. This is less than the 4800
x 2 CPU's are going for. What did it get me???......well, I had been running
an AMD 64 4800 x 2 CPU before I got this and on a track heavy/plugin heavy
project I'm mixing, the CPU was spiking hard at 64k buffers and playback was
not possible without major stuttering/dropouts. After installing the Opteron
185, the CPU is not spiking at all. The meter is running up to about 75-80%
usage. I'm not sure how a 400 MHz increase in CPU horsepower (appx 8.3%)
could yield a 20+% increase in performance unless there's something else
going on with the Opterons that isn't going on with the AMD 64's.

Sarah???....what do you think?

Hmmmm....I should know better than to post before I have my coffee. the
increase is more like 12% which gets us a bit closer to reality here as far
as performance goes, and perhaps the rest is voodoo.

Ahhh yeah!! :) Look at the specs. The Opterons L1 Cache is symectrical. 1
mb ..Wider pipes..

That's why last year when looking to update my Neundo PC, I opted for the
Opteron over the X2..
