The hairless (Sphinx) and under-coating-only cats (Devon Rex and Cornish
Rex) are some of the coolest cats you'll ever meet. I'm particularly fond of
the Devons, whose fur is like rippled mink. They are exteremely intelligent
(refreshing in a cat), they love water, and are amongst the most social of
animals, very bright, lovely personalities. And they have huge ears.
I've enclosed a photo of a Devon.
BTW, that owl with the pin-feathers still on? Adorable.

Thanks!
TyroneIt looks like any other cat, only without the outer layer of hair. It's the
outer hair that makes cats look fluffy and hefty. Anybody who has seen a cat
wet knows what I'm talking about. Except most wet cats don't look as
cheerful as that Devon Rex...

wrong as I haven't quite got
it to work as I want yet, but this seems to be what I was seeing in the menus,
and it does make some sense that just because you have an Extended Boot Manager,
that Windows may still only be able to see a limited number of partitions.
Cheers,
Kim.

When playing recordings back in Paris, i'm getting what seems like the obvious
word clock pops *ONLY IN THE MASTER SECTION*
this is strange to me. I tried switching out the word clock cable between
MEC chassis, problem persists. I even moved the word clock cable between
the EDS cards to the other port.
Any ideas?
PS: I just got an Apogee Rosetta 800 on loan for a couple of weeks for another
project (on another system), i even tried spitting Clock from that box into
the rig and (while it sounded great) it still does it, however less frequently.
I'm simply chaining clock signal from box to box by doing it this way, so
i'm not sure if this is even going to make a difference without getting a
distro box.Well......hmmmmm. I don't own and have little experience with the U47. I've
used one a couple of times. I though it was very flattering to to
male,/female vocals and bass cab/upright which were the only things I have
ever used it on.
About 4 years ago, Mike Claytor read the TapeOp article by David Royer and
put one of these mics together. I ended up with it on a loan and used it on
a female vocalist in a demo session. On her voice, it had that same rich
velvety vibe that I remembered about the U47. I have used it on male
vocalists as well. I liked it so much that I bought another one that Mike
made. These mics are point-to-point wired through perfboard with Peluso
capsules so this may set them apart from the Mojave mics which are most
likely designed around prefab

unded excellent. The
Peluso capsules have a bit more detail to my ears. This is slight, but
audible in the *car key* test. The Mojave has very good mid and HF handling
characteristics and is very flattering to the human voice with a very warm
bottom which is, inthe case of my mics, probably due to the Jensen
transformers.
The SE Gemini sounds similar in some ways. The bottom sounds different from
the Mojave, probably due to the fact that there is a tube at the output
stage rather than a transformer. I haven't played around with this as much
as I intend to, but I can envision a bit of variety by switching tubes. The
Gemini has a bit more output gain than my Mojaves, but the self noise is
just a low (both are very well behaved for tube mics). The Gemini has *lots*
of low level detail. If expression is what you're looking for, you're going
to get it in spades with the Gemini.
I heard an interview with Allison Krause's engineer once describing the way
he used a Sony C800G on her voice and how this picked up every nuance. The
Gemini has this kind of low level detail. The C800G is a $5k microphone. At
first I was a bit put off by the Gemini because it's so heavy. You need a
moose of a mic stand to support it. I use a big Atlas boom. If you decide on
one of these make sure you've got the infrasturcture to use it.
I love them both. They have both done justice to vocals and instruments (the
Gemini can be an awesome guitar mic when placed about 2' from the guitar due
to it's high output and detail-the Mojave usually gets the nod on upright
bass) If I want to get the *breathy thing* going with a femme vocalist, I
reach for the Gemini. Since the Gemini covers about 95% of what the Movaje
does tonally, it might be a more versatile piece, especially since the tubes
can be swapped out to taste.
Both of these smoke my Stephen Paul U87 for vocal tracking. It's hard to
admit it, but I just keep the Stephen Paul mic around here these days to
impress people. It's a beautiful and very *true* sounding mic and it still
gets used a lot on instrumental dubs but it seldom gets the nod on a vocal
session after a singer has heard their voice on the Gemini or Mojave.
Also, I'd say that though the Gemini is manufactured in Shanghai, don't let
that worry you at all. This thing is beyond the Studio Projects offerings.
SE doesn't appear to be trying to make *cheap mics* It looks and sounds
like a quality piece. I can't really speak for the new Mojave's that are
also being manufactured in China, but if they are anything like my hand made
mics, they are wonderful.
It's really hard to believe that mics this good can be had for $1000.00.
