Well, i've been spending a lot of time with these and while they sound good,
they are not my end all, though I do like them a lot.
I have some very big cerwin vega's with 18" woofers and my mid level car
stereo that I also compare with and I'm finding that the really low bass
notes get over compensated on the rp5's. For example, the big drum solo
on Abbey Road has a really nice set of low toms on it. On my vega's they
sound full, tight and really natural, actually GREAT ! On they KRK rp5's
they sound muddy, period. So what I did was setup a loop and played the
drum part over and over while A/Bing the two and I found that when I run
an EQ that has a ramp from 100 db (0db) to 17hz (down -6db) I get a much
better approximation of the big vegas and it translates much better to my
car system. It's still not perfect and todays car listening was too bassy
so I may end up only ramping down 4db or so but this at least has helped
prevent the rp5s from trying to produce really low bass that is just can't.
over and out so far.
