Anyone? Benefits to AHCI on Windows XP?

Are there any issues when swapping audio SATA drives between machines
that use SATA IDE mode vs. AHCI?

The main advantage I know of with AHCI involves RAID. If you switch modes
and don't have the right drivers for your drive controller you can have serious
problems.

Drive performance is so unimportant these days I'd leave the defaults unless
there's a reason.

FWIW, I tried RAID mode when setting up my current Cubase/XP
rig just to see if it gave me any benefits, & it didn't work
worth a flying fark - switched to IDE mode and everything was
jake.

I think I remember Deej and perhaps even Dedric or Chris Ludwig
saying something about trying RAID before I even had a RAID-
capable system and they didn't have any luck either. "ANYTHING
BUT"-RAID seems to work better for audio apps - at least at
this moment in time.

Hey Neil,

I think this usually has a lot to do with the RAID chipset on the motherboard.
If you put quality consumer level stuff in there, like 3Ware, I'm sure it
would work smashingly. But a lot of mobos have really shitty Promise chips
that are barely RAID at all, the CPU is doing most of the work and they step
all over anything real time. With RAID gear you have to shell out for the
good stuff.

It's worth it in some cases, and obviously the drive redundancy can let you
sleep a bit better. But in general I agree with you, basic IDE mode and basic
IDE drives are MORE than enough for what an audio user needs.
