I am at my wit's end on this Paris XP 3.0 install.

I have tried three times from scratch but no Paris
effects ever show up as well as C-16 quirkiness
and COE more often than not.

I understand that the effects subsystem needs to be
in the exact same path as Paris. Here's what I did:
C:Paris for the Paris install
C:Paris for the subsystem install

The subsystem install creates its own folder named paris pro
@ C:Paris\paris pro

If I copy the files that are inside of paris pro into C:Paris
the effects show up and work but no presets are there.
This leads me to believe the path being wrong is only part
of the problem.

I start with the hardware installed, install paris xp drivers,
install Paris, install subsystem, change PSCL, ADAT,
and Scherzo to Mike's 1.02 setup. Rebooting between
all steps.

Tips for,
Tom

I don't remember having any problems like that but I do remember letting
Paris install itself where it wanted. Then after all was working I moved the
whole wack over to it's new home in C\:Paris.

At least that's my recollection of things but in all fairness it was a while
ago and my memory of things computer is hazy at the best of times.

No doubt someone will pop in to help you

Don,

Sounds like a good plan. Mike said the same thing.
Maybe I'll just leave it in programs and forget about it.

So you'll direct the subsystem to: C:program files\ensoniq ?

Thanks,
Tom

Tom,

DOn't know if this helps, but I looked at my file structure and the
plugins are in c:\windows\system32\ensoniq\PlugIns. If I remember
correctly I did the following

Installed the Scherzo drivers
Installed the PAce Drivers
Installed Paris to c:\ParisPro
INstalled the effect subsystem, pointing at C:\ParisPro
Manually added Mike's effects to the c:\windows\system32\ensoniq\plugins
directory.

Everything worked great until I decided to add on more eds cards (from
6-8). I will be digging it out to address that soon (I hope). I did
experience an occasional COE but not after I removed the "offending
plugs" from early on (i.e. kickback).

simple fix: Do NOT let it add that Paris Pro folder in the install. It puts
it in automatically, you have to watch it and manually scrub that from the
path.

So can I just lose the paris pro part and see if my
install will work? There are two files with the same
name. They must have to overwrite the existing
ones.

I'll try it before I start all over again.

Thanks you guys.

Tom fwiw, my install path is c:\ program files\EMU\Paris Pro
I tried putting at the root level for a while, and I didn't really notice
any difference.

Paris is finally up and running all adats present
and accounted for. No probs yet.

Installing where Paris expects to go made everything
smoother. Thanks to all that chimed in.

No latency spikes either. Now to beat it up a little.

I was wrong. I've installed Paris at least 5 times without problems
like these. Quadcore maybe?

Paris symptoms:

Audio only seen and heard on Submix A. (This was happening before)
One time I flicked the submix buttons and all audio was heard.
Never again. Weird but leads me to believe software.

Nothing is soloed, all tracks are present but no meters are moving
in the mixer.

These projects did have effects that are not present yet in the system.
There are no signs of them when I open the projects though.

If it's an installation problem what would cause this? C-16s act normal
and no COE. All Paris effects and their presets are working.

I'll try reseating cards and cables but this was never a problem before.

Dumbfoundedly yours,
Tom

Are you starting a clean, from an image (Ghost, Acronis, etc...) on these
multiple tries or just removing/installing paris ?
I've in the past had a lot of trouble with the install/remove/install/remove
stuff. Lot of trouble. I'm guessing, but don't know, that something
is happening in the registry that is not good and/or confusing to Windows
and/or the paris app.
My best results have always been, install windows, strip MS crapware out I
don't need, update what I do need (hardware/software), then install paris
apps/patches/fx upgrades. I never turn on a port I don't need either, like
some of the USB ports, COM, LPT/Printer, etc..

Aaron,

This install came from a Windows Restore point as you described.
It's all I had to go on. It looked pretty clean to the eye.
Who knows what's imbedded into the registry though?

This audio problem might just be a corrupt driver that I keep reloading?
It really seems like an easy fix if that's the case.

I am getting more than depressed about this now. It really
seems like an impossible goal to just get Windows and Paris
on this box. I have taken every step that is in print as well as
a few tips from you guys. Rebooting between every step.

This all stems from the Bios being obsolete. This is the supposed
fix for the problems I was having before. That fix is still an unknown.

I'll reinstall windows for a third time and tweak just a few things.

ass

I found a way around the problem. I'm not sure if it's
caused by my particular computer, new drivers, a
combination of the two, OR something I did in the process
of installing Paris. It is the only program installed and
was done so on a clean Windows only Restore point.

If when first booting Paris I play audio on all five submixes,
audio will be present in all other projects. If I don't do this
first, Paris will only have audio on Submix A. Weird as hell.
All EDS cards, Mecs and hardware are recognized though.

Some how I feel as if I conquered the beast. I now am
committed to having a default project which in itself can be evil.
Maybe this will change once a project has been opened
successfully in this comp. I'll test and report back.

No internal latency as was hoped for. Now to backup and
add some goodies.

System is quirky at Paris boot. Audio is a 50% chance
of not being there in total.

Must start anew.

TOm,

Have you tried starting up without a default project and verifying audio
from there?

Hi Jeff,

Ya, with/wo default project. Straight to a working
project. The system is finicky to say the least.

Mike A. has given me a direction that I will try asap.

Thanks for your input here. I will try anything to get this
happening!

Thanks,
Tom

Tom, FWIW, I have a default project. My Default is set to 48k. This is a Brian
T. tip. Way back when, he found that paris was wonky if you opened straight
up to 44.1. but if your default ppj was set to 48 and then you changed it,all
was good.
You may already know this. Just brainstorming.

Thanks Rod. I'll double check. I was trying most
of this without a default project. But it might have
been opening at 44.1?

I'll fix it one way or another.

Well, if you weren't using a default project, and clicking directly on the
ppj you wanted to open, and your working at 44.1 you're probably opening
at 44.1

Rod,

I just checked and sure enough the default project as well
as 90% of all my work is at 44.1k. I'll see if that was the only
problem. If that's the case that will be the simplest fix ever.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll report back.

Tom

Here we never did anything at 48. I simply opened Paris with NO default
project, then opened up whatever project I needed with Zero problems,
ever. Try deleting the Default project all together and see what happens.

what my default is set to. I'm on Mac

Hey guys,

No default project didn't help anything. In all
of my working systems I also booted at 48k to start.
I forgot on this most recent run. It's been in/uninstalled
three times in three days.

Mike has a debug for me to run to see if there's
something peculiar to my setup.

I want to thank everyone who has helped. It
makes a huge difference in my mental health.
Computers make me really happy when they work
and the opposite when they don't.

Ya Aaron, I'll tell my wife that one.

If I'm not using a default project how do I
make Paris boot at 48k? That's not happening
anymore. It used to do it automatically.
Still using internal clock.

Thanks,
Tom

Tom, why don't you want a default project? I must have misunderstood, it
sounds like you use to do this, and it worked for you.

Hi Rod,

I used to use a default project but many have suggested not to.
It might be a problem in some instances at this stage.

I thought it was mandatory way back but since haven't
used one. Paris always booted at 48k without it. Now
in this comp it boots at 44.1 without it. Not sure why.

Mike has a new debug PSCL that may be the fix. My
computer is a bugger. Mike is hot on the trail.

I'll report back when the fix is found.

Tom

I'm looking into drivers again for the mobo/chipset.

Tom, I am frusterated, just reading about your problems, I was really hoping
the 48k thing would fix it. This is making me rethink jupming into the multe

Hey Rod,

Nobody will have the kind of problems I'm having.
I will find the answer and when I do it will be the silliest thing.

That's my take on it anyway.

Tom

A default project makes it crash every by the way...

Got the rig running smoothly in loop mode
with two cards, two mecs and no magma.
Paris is very stable. Default project is present
but never being clicked on to boot. That's key!!!
Click on it and Paris is not happy. Not sure about that?

After two hours I'll add the Magma back into the mix.
That will tell all because I found one eds card that wouldn't
function as the Master card. Either it or the Magma are
the reason for my problems as it looks now.

Tomorrow will be the Magma hurdle.

Magma in, three cards, two mecs loaded with ADATs all
is happy. Latency peaked at 54us over two hours of looping
three submixes.

Must have been a bad cable, card or both I've been battling for
the last month.

Tomorrow card 4 and maybe 5 if all goes well.

I ALWAYS launched Paris from an application shortcut on the desktop...
NEVER from a PPJ. Never had one problem doing that.

That is so weird. So your saying you start Paris by clicking on the ppj file
you want to work on? My rig does not like that.

Hi Rod,

Actually I never do that but did try for a while
which was futile. When I got this whole rig running
seemingly perfectly only to find out I had to start
from scratch... I started not thinking clearly.
I forget the basic stuff since setting up a Paris
rig is what I do least with Paris. I had forgotten that
the shortcut was to the .exe not to the default project.

Now all is well latency wise with 4 cards and the Magma.
Tomorrow is plugin day with the UAD. Maybe Macro Express.
Paragon is working so backup images take about ten minutes.
It restores in another ten.

Then it's creamware. I will monitor latency at every step.

Thanks for keeping me straight on all of this. Mike and Chris
have been very helpful throughout.

Tom

Got lots of plugs working in Paris with no problems
at all. Latency is low low low and CPU never gets
past 5% with 25-30 tracks.

Soon to add UAD-2 and a few other large bundles to see
where we really stand. Tomorrow will tell.

I must backup now.

All that's left is the UAD-2 tomorrow.
Hundreds of cool plugs working right now
with Paris in this quadcore.

All systems go!
