I think I'm going to dig into vista pretty soon. I've been to the the
extremities of usenet geekdom over the weekend, you wouldn't believe some of
the stuff out there....at least I didn't............. and I have learned a
few interesting things.........one of which is that it's possible ot wreak
havoc on Vista, rip huge chunks of bloat out of it. and optimize it for
audio.......just my cuppa' ;o)

At the same time I may be building another computer that will be either
based on an AMD Socket F (Tyan S2915 with a pair of Santa Rosa Opterons) or
a dual socket Xeon, though I haven't completely ruled out a single socket
Opteron Quad. there are a few things I'm waiting to get answers to. First on
is whether or not the Tyan S2915 will be Barcelona compatible. The bigger
issue is whether any of these systems, as they exist today, running win
XP32, will give me the capability work at 664-128k buffers without ASIO
direct monitoring while tracking up to 20 live sources and monitoring 20
more with a fair number of plugins being monitored on the recorded tracks
being monitored....... basically allowing me to overdub while building a mix
and using the Cubase Control room function which currently doesn't work with
ADM.

At the same time I will go ahead and spring for the SBS 64bit expansion
chassis to be able to interface all of my PCI cards with the new mobo
architecture at 64 bit. All of my audio hardware except for my Houston
controller has 64 bit drivers available and the Houston can be interfaced in
HUI mode via midi.

I know it's not ready for prime time so I'll have Vista running in a
removable drive caddy and will have another audio drive running Win XP for
my routine DAW duties until I get Vista tweaked into submission.

Probably about 30 days away barring some financial catastrophe.

I need pain.............and I know exactly where to get it.............
