Would you move this thread to "general", Kim? This relentless, bitter,
adolescent negativity is killing any urge I might feel to do something
positive for this community.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy, DC can I join your club of real engineers? Please!
Please! Please! Dude, you have got to be kidding me! You don't know any
thing about me. I have worked on Harrison consoles in the past and some
of them do SUCK!
I'll say again, I didn't start the shit here on this NG. I didn't start
stirring it up the Mac vs PC war stuff on this NG, some of you guys did years
ago. I got sick of hearing the same old repeated untruths about the mac
platform, so I jumped in to straiten it out and give some information. If
you want to believe that the Mac can't run as much software titles as a PC
go ahead, but the truth is, Macs have been able to run more titles than a
PC since about 1994, if you say other wise I will try to educate you.
I find it funny that the people that bash Macs don't use them. If you don't
use them on a regular basis, how and the hell do you know what your talking
about??? I use both, I used PCs before I ever used a Mac. I believe, for
most people, if you used both you would you would end up preferring the Mac.
I also believe, for some people it's a left brain right brain thing, and
they will never like a Mac. For others, I think they are just stubborn,
or brain washed or ignorant, these are the people that will go to their graves
insisting that Macs suck. Until you use a new Mac for a couple of years
you won't know.
I don't give a rat's ass what you use, just don't bash the mac when you don't
know what the hell your talking about. Don't mock or insult mac users and
you won't be mocked or insulted. It's like telling someone they are a dumb
ass for paying $3,000.00 for a compressor when they could have bought a RNC
for $175.00, and then talking about your new $3,000.00 mic pre you just bought.
You don't know what the value is that they are getting out of the $3,000.00
compressor, and you got personal and insulted their intelligence.
It can go both ways, tit for tat. I didn't start the shit here on the NG.
I didn't start the shit this time, Thad did, and John and Neil followed.
I haven't made any post that would stir any thing up in quite some time,
but others have. If I post anything about Apple or MS it's information.
You may not like the information, but the information may not be for you.
Any posts I make about mac information draws fire now. It's not about Apple,
MS or Macs, what it is becoming, is personal. If someone is going to mock
me, ridicule me, put me down or insult me, they can expect to get it back.
Don't pile on and then patronize me and tell me to chill out, if you do,
you can expect it to get ugly.
It's become obvious to me that a few people would like to drive me off the
group, and they may get what they want, or they may get exactly what they
asked for, but the group won't be the same.
DC, I don't appreciate your little talk. If you want to view me as the center
of the problem, I'll note your position. If you want to shun me or ignore
me or whatever, go for it.

Wait just a minute there Thad.... correction!.... you slammed me pretty
good once when, pre-spider-hole capture, and subsequent lunar courtroom
outbursts, you asserted that Saddam Hussein was a "genius." But in all
fairness, I more or less told you I thought that was about one of the
stupidest things I've ever heard.... although, as was the case then, time
will tell.... or already *did* tell... you tell me. Maybe he was just a
half-genius, half-idiot and we were both right and all that living like a
groundhog finally brought his murderous conciousness to the "surface."
I recall you left the group for a looooooong time after that.... kinda like
Neil plans on apparently doing. Ain't it funny how a a few dirt clods
wafting through the air brings out the sandbox brow beatings on newsgroups!
I still marvel.

Right you are, Mark. So there are _two_ people I have critiqued personally
on the NG. That's over the course of about 7-8 years of posting. So I think
this is further proof that I'm not quick to pull the trigger.

When everyone else was bashing you.
And this is your response?
I guess you really can't do better...
silly me...

Hey James, I appreciate some of the Mac posts, and the ones that don't
affect me don't bother me. It's another tool, as has been said. And a
better overall choice for some of us, right now. But to each their own
(as I think we've both said many times).
Beyond Macs, you and I have had a few disagreements along the way. Some
strong. But that's not a problem as far as I'm concerned. We all have
our opinions. We all have our blind spots. But everyone here has
something to offer.
Clearly Thad is not a Mac fan and some of his criticisms and assumptions
are ones I wouldn't make (having used a few OSX Macs pretty heavily at
this point, among other platforms), but his sense of humor was not a
problem for me. His first jokey responses missed the point that there
actually had been rumors going around about the Apple pro apps. I
wouldn't expect him to know that - he doesn't really follow Mac news,
I'm guessing. But his responses to the anon posts were funny. BTW, I
don't think there's anything to those pro app rumors.
I agree with Don that music is gear agnostic, to an extent anyway. But
the fact is we all came here to discuss gear and computers, for good
reasons, and it wouldn't be accurate to imply that there's nothing to
discuss. It isn't just blind brand loyalty that leads people to
recommend what works for them.
Discussing computer systems and software is as legit as discussing any
other part of the recording chain. While it's true that a good engineer
can do wonders with almost any piece of gear, the same engineer can
likely do even better by choosing every piece of the chain.
BTW, maybe the "cool club" mentality Don brought up is behind that weird
shunning thing. Slamming or shunning others while lecturing people about
how to behave, and pretending to speak for everyone, it seems a bit
ironic but whatever. Like all of us probably, Don has plenty to offer.
For each of us, our behavior likely makes sense within the cultures in
which we were raised. So I tend to cut people some slack, especially on
message boards where all the body language and voice inflections, a big
part of meaning and intent, are filtered out.
Also, all the PARIS group people I've met in person have been great. My
guess is that most of the arguments that break out here would never
escalate like that if everyone was actually in the same room together.
Anyway, Kim and Kerry hit the nail on the head, overall. And a big
thanks to both of them for doing something useful!
And Neil has a good point about signal to noise ratio. Which I'm sure
this post isn't helping. ;^)
Cheers,
-Jamie

PS. For some reason a reply to a Mac product link you sent me in private
email bounced last week, James. Looks like the problem is between my ISP
and your email service, I notified my ISP. But basically the monitor
support you mentioned looks pretty cool but wouldn't fit on my desk.
Right now my second G5 monitor fits pretty well on its own, just off to
the side of my MIDI controller keyboard. Works for now. :^)

You've said this before, I say use what you want.
I don't think it's your place to tell me what I'm going to be part of and
what I'm not. There is no apology necessary, I was the one that was mocked,
for posting information that was relevant to some, remember?

See DC, you don't get it. Reread my past posts. I don't care what you use.
I use both Macs and PCs, I prefer Macs, but it's not about brand loyalty.
I'm just passing information on to some of the other mac users that might
be interested. It's just bullshit to get jumped every time I do. Some times
I might even post about something that is mac related but not audio related.
Things like BlackBerrys have been discussed here, it's not a reason for
a war. I'll try to post to the general NG things that are not audio related,
however, if nobody else follows this rule, nobody should expect me to. One
other thing, a lot of people miss what is posted to the general NG. I personally
believe that if the NG is divided up too much it will fall apart.
