No, it isn't really better, just different, I just find myself using it more,
for my taste.

snare sometimes, kik sometimes, room mics sometimes, toms sometimes, Overheads
sometimes. It's just probably the most versitile, so I picked that. I'm actually
starting to use the Neve comp on snare a lot these days. I didn' list it
because it's a DSP hog, sounds great on snare though (and bass guitar)

Brian T. actually liked the SE version better for drums, I still usually
use the LN, they're pretty close, imo

I'd say the Fairchild, but that's because I havn't had enouth time with the
helios yet to get the hang of it. How about both?

Better? Subjective call...but for what I am wanting to hear, the Fairchild
usually gets it done. To my ears, it is much smoother and responsive to
nuance than the LA2 (which, just so you know, neither are really that close
to the originals...I've heard a well maintained Fairchild in a studio, and
it is as close to a sonic orgasm as I've heard - but they cost $30,000 plus
an additional $5K to maintain each year.)

I use the 1176 pretty much as a flavor enhancer and limiter, running drum
submixes on the 1st button (4 db), attack time at 9 release at about 2-3...some
people like the "all buttons" setting - not my cup of coffee...
