"stockFX.ini was not found" and other setup questions [message #100092] |

Ah, the joys of getting set up with PARIS in XP for the first time.
Actually, it all went far more smoothly than I'd anticipated, but today
I was getting an error message upon startup -
"The application has failed to start because StockFX.ini was not found.
Re-installing the application may fix this problem".
Oddly, PARIS then goes ahead and starts up normally, as if nothing had
happened. I searched my HD and there's no StockFX.ini to be found, and
the EDS plugin lists do look skinnier than I recall. Any ideas?
Also - running a two-card, two MEC system, with the two connected via a
WC cable (no external clock at the moment), will I still need to boot
into 48k to have two MECs function properly, or will everything work
fine booting into 44.1k? I'd be quite happy to never look at 48k again
in my life.
Thanks!
- Kerry
Oh, PS: any suggestions on what should I be looking at changing *right
away* from the defaults in my paris.cfg?

Hi Kerry, Had the same problem recently after installing Mike Audet's
versions of Chuck's plug-ins. I failed to follow Mike's instructions
accurately and got the same message. I got rid of it by going over the
installation instructions.( Right click My Computer-
Advanced-Environment Variables- Path.....etc.) I am not 100% sure if
this would help but you can give it a shot and see if it helps.
All the best,

As for the 44.1 thing... in the past I would always launch Paris from a
shortcut, THEN load a project (which are always 44.1)... never had to do
anything more convoluted than that... Now, we have a Studio clock, and
Paris is always set to external... still no problems.

Arrrrrrrrrrghhh, of course! I got called away part way through
installing one of Mike's verbs and didn't complete the instructions.
You'd think that a guy who's serving them on his own website might have
actually followed them, wouldn't you?
I'll go sit in the corner now.

Thanks David. Now just to make sure I understand - by "from a
shortcut", you mean a shortcut directly to the app - and without having
a "Default Project.ppj" in the PARIS app folder? If so, I'll adopt that
workflow, it should be easy enough to remember. I can always store a
song template elsewhere and open that afterwards.
One other oddity re: clocking - When I do that - booting directly from
the PARIS app - my project window opens at a default of 44.1k, and the
indicator on MEC A correctly displays the 44.1k, but MEC B still
displays 48k. The indicator on MEC A tracks changes made to the
samplerate, and everything seems to play back just fine on both cards,
but MEC B sticks to displaying 48K no matter what the project setting
is. Is this normal behaviour?

Followup: Ran PARIS for hours today. Not one crash or lockup, solid as
a rock. Ahhh.
Now I'm thinking about tackling some presets for Mike's verbs while
I've still got a ltitle free time.

Hi Kerry,
Are you running XP in HT mode or disable?
I replaced the stock (skunkworks file) PARIS_StudioControlLibrary .dll with
Mike's new version which is supposed to allow using dual CPU mode
(Hyper-threading) and yes Paris does run but I notice a longer boot up time
of Paris (I'm ok with that, it's only about 10 secs different), but I've
also had a crash. I am generally very stable in the disabled HT mode so I'm
not sure if it was just something I did or if it needs a special install.
All I did was save the original .dll into a backup folder and put Mike's
PSCL .dll in it's place (c:\windows\system32).
There is another file in the same directory with the same name but no
extension. PARIS_StudioControlLibrary with a file type of file. I don't
know what this file is. 48K, but it has the same install date as the
original .dll so I assume it went with the skunkworks install of the PSCL
..dll. Should this file stay? This file is not talked about much. I opened
it with textpad to take a look and it's all hieroglyphics.
As always I cntrl-s quite often so I didn't have to redo to much. Is
everybody else gone to HT and working stable?
Thanks all.

Hi Wayne - I'm afraid I've got no insights on the multiprocessor thing
as I'm on a single processor myself. Bear in mind that Mike's PSCL
update is only a few days old, so you'll be one of the earliest
adopters - looks like nobody's had a chance to report back in yet.

Hi Kerry,
That's how it will always be. Mec B's clock light will not display
accurately with either internal or external clock. Don't worry about
that.
Sounds like you've got a stable setup. Make a clone then continue.
Keep it up!

Thanks Kerry. I'll continue to in the multiprocessor mode to see if I
notice any artifacts or glitches and report to the group either way.
