What do you like using the Pultec Pro on? I love the EQP-1a
on bass, kick and a tom or two from time to time. I question
the crazy midrange that this Pro unit will offer. E. guitar perhaps?

I'll be glad to tell you exactly what you need if you'll tell me what you
want to achieve with how many tracks.......but a slower computer is going to
limit you in many ways no matter what you want to achieve because even with
UAD-1 cards, you're still processing through a native system and you've got
to either:
1. be able to stream all your tracks directly from the native app to Paris
while being processed in the native app. The higher the track count, the
more CPU cycles the native app wioll use, and despite the hype, the UAD-1
will also cause a CPU hit........just not as much as a *really hungry*
native plugin.
2. ..........or you've got to be able to use the native app as a standalone
processor in order to process the files sent from Paris *through* the native
app and UAD-1 plugin and return them to Paris at 64k (1.5ms) buffers or the
Cubase plugin delay compensation doesn't really work optimally. You might be
able to get away with 128ms, but it can get sloppy and flamming can happen.
For *live* zero latency processing, you're going to need to operate at 1.5ms
latency in your native app.
My advice is to build the most powerful rig you can for this.
For hardware, I would recommend RME HDSP series cards, only because I have
been using them and I know how to configure the system for what I need to
do. I have configured my rig with 2 x HDSP 9652's and one HDSP Multiface
because this combination give me exactly the number of analog and digital
I/O I need to mix while interfaced with my Paris rig and certain digital
processors. Dimitrios' solution of using Pulsar cards might be a more cost
effective and perhaps less CPU intensive solution.
I'm running an AMD 64 4200 x 2 dualcore CPU right now. I don't think it will
be long until I go to a 4800 x 2. We'll see.
