I've heard that these start writing audio data before you even hit rec>play.

And in some cases have been known to start playback even before recording.
It's known as negative latency, or sometimes referred to as earlyency.
Really awesome technology.

Are any present DAW's compensating for earlyency? If not, one simple
solution may be to move closer to your speakers, according to the
formula 1 ft. = 1 ms. Thus, if earlyency is detected at 3 ms, you
simply sit on top of your console when doing critical monitoring. For
earlyency greater than 3 ms (or is it "less"?) it may be best to have
the speakers placed just behind the listening position, pointing the
other way. Either way -- another triumph of technology... We're lucky
to be living in times like these...

I'm guessing that the latency with the UAD-1 cards could most easily be
solved by bussing all tracks with UAD-1 plugins to a separate set of
reference monitors placing thems 36 feet behind the mix position, set up a
stereo pair of room mics at the mix position facing backwards towards the
monitors and reamping the UAD tracks.;o)

Ahhhh. To be living in DeejWorld....

And after you reamp the UAD trax, would you then pass them through
Paris, out through the auxes into another PC running Nuendo, using
only the adat cables?

You actually can drill holes in one end of two halves of a coconut =
shell, run twine through the holes, knot it so that it can't exit the =
hole when you stretch it tight on both ends and then once it's very =
tight you can pluck it like a broomstick bass. Sounds like shit, but you =
can do it. I'm thinking that perhaps Mogami twine might be sonically =
superior though.
