Howdy, kids. And thanks to Erling for the help with the AIFF > WAVE file conversion
via iTunes thing. Worked perfectly. Honestly, I'm still trying to get used
to the Mac OS, but that's another story.
I was trouble-shooting a fresh round of freezing issues, checking to see
if the wireless network card I just installed in my Paris computer was interfering
with the EDS card on the IRQ sharing tip, when I realized that my EDS card
is not recognized nor does it have a driver in the Device Manager. It's listed
as "Multimedia Audio Controller" and does not have a driver installed, according
to Windows. I have gotten some work done since installing the network car,
so the freezing is intermittent, but it's getting worse real fast. But two
days ago I worked in Paris all day without any hiccups, same exact configuration.
This computer was stable as a rock six months ago when I last used it. Should
I just uninstall and re-install Paris? How did the EDS card get "unrecognized"?
The last time I had freezing problems it was IRQ sharing difficulties, but
this big yellow question mark in Device Manager where the EDS card ought
to be is weird....

Jimmy,
I'd remove the WIFI card first and see what happens.

Your EDS driver isn't being recognized. That's for sure. I have had the same
thing happen when overloading a PC with various devices that would not share
IRQ. I don't use WIFI but I have heard stories about WIFI not sharing nicely
with other devices. If you've got an IRQ conflict, at some point, the system
will make a decision for you as to the driver it recognizes and even if you
reinstall the Paris driver and it is recognized, it may override the WIFI
driver and you may still have problems......or maybe not.

It's Deej!
I did remove the wifi card, with no success. I think maybe my audio drive
is waaay too full? Just old fashioned streaming problems? I'm going to clean
off the hard drive and see if that does it.
I wish I had the coin to get one of the Magma chassis thingies. I've still
got the notes I tok back when we talked on the phone.
Hey, come to think of it, do you ever go to Survivalblog.com? Pretty col
website, and little extreme for me, but loads of practical insight into how
to prepare for really hard times. Not too kooky, either. There's a lot of
folks out there getting ready for a big crash....

Jimmy,
To my knowledge, a full hard drive wouldn't cause your EDS driver to disappear.
It could definitely cause throughput issues though.

They're pretty handy to have. Especially the newer ones that can interface
PCIe cards.

If you want to discuss this, let's take it over the the General site.

Alright, I was being a little stupid. That yellow question mark was for the
onboard audio, I think, not the EDS card. I found a Scherzo driver elsewhere
in the Device Manager.
I also cleaned both hard drives, and experienced much better results. But
over the course of three hours I did still have 2 freezes, each requiring
a restart of Paris.
Are there any mods I can make to the config that would fix this?
Thanks for indulging me.
