If you could have only one UAD-1 plugin, what would you pick for each of the
following?

for me, if I had to pick one it would be what wireline said
Drums 1176
vocals Fairchild
Guitar none, unless you have to pick, then as Bill said, one of the Neve
eq's

I use the fairchild on kick a lot but usually never on snare
I use the 1176 or the LA2A on vocals a lot also, but if your limiting me
to 1, Fairchild is my answer

What kind of plugin would you use on the Roland Space Echo track?

:)

I use the LA2A on vox, is the fairchild that much better? I used up my demo
too long ago, and did not get into it enough.

In what ways are you using the 1176 on drums?
Is the LN much better?

Should I go for the Helios or fairchild next?

Oh an I love my real 201 space echo too. I think of it almost as instrument
sometimes.

No, it isn't really better, just different, I just find myself using it more,
for my taste.

snare sometimes, kik sometimes, room mics sometimes, toms sometimes, Overheads
sometimes. It's just probably the most versitile, so I picked that. I'm actually
starting to use the Neve comp on snare a lot these days. I didn' list it
because it's a DSP hog, sounds great on snare though (and bass guitar)

Brian T. actually liked the SE version better for drums, I still usually
use the LN, they're pretty close, imo

I'd say the Fairchild, but that's because I havn't had enouth time with the
helios yet to get the hang of it. How about both?

I had a Space Echo and sold it, I think because I'm a raging moron. These
days for whacked delay fun I use a Moogerfooger pedal. Not a Space Echo but
still pretty cool.

Better? Subjective call...but for what I am wanting to hear, the Fairchild
usually gets it done. To my ears, it is much smoother and responsive to
nuance than the LA2 (which, just so you know, neither are really that close
to the originals...I've heard a well maintained Fairchild in a studio, and
it is as close to a sonic orgasm as I've heard - but they cost $30,000 plus
an additional $5K to maintain each year.)

I use the 1176 pretty much as a flavor enhancer and limiter, running drum
submixes on the 1st button (4 db), attack time at 9 release at about 2-3...some
people like the "all buttons" setting - not my cup of coffee...

When you combine that with the "Soar" button, you have an
unbeatable combination.

:)

I haven't even bothered to demo the Space Echo because I used one in a
band back when they came out (I was 21 when they came out), and I don't
remember them being "all that". You got me curious, though.

The Mooger Fooger is a trip. Chick Corea uses it on Rhodes and he would
wig out on it just about every night.

Hmm, check out the song Silicone On Sapphire over at my myspace site.
http://www.myspace.com/killingfloorrecords

We worked with a dub guy named Mikey Dread on this so I have some decent
space echo stuff in there.

The song Ordinary Day on my bands last CD I used 2 on a guitar set slightly
different, one of the 201's had a slightly warped capstan or something.,
so it also flanged a bit.

I also just used mine in a ripping clash style tune for a subtle pre chorus
tension builder.
