And, in a weird sort of twist, my first CD was Asia by Asia, and I had
it before I had a cd player. Jewel case looked pretty cool sitting up
on my bulletin board in my dorm room.
That was back when you could get stares of admiration from the cute
chicks working the record stores when you bought a cd. Now, nothing.
Got my first cd player, a second-gen Yammy, right after I graduated
from college in '84. Spent stupid money on it, too, something like
$400.
Ahhh. The pain of early adopters.

Alpine HOME audio 16 bit linear second generation model. Sounds way
better than any others I have tried since. It also has a 5V audio
output level that would max the line inputs on the Neve 8068MKIII

Crazy is a good word for it. Goes to show how clever, well funded
marketing, a legacy of lies, and a highly addictive product can
sometimes overcome common sense.

Unfortunately, being a working musician means having to play in smoky bars
from time to time, but in my off time I stay away. I absolutely will not eat
at any restaurant that isn't either smoke free or doesn't have a physical
barrier between the smoking and non-smoking sections. I believe people
should be free to smoke all they want as long as it doesn't interfere with a
non-smokers right to breath smoke free air. I know a lot of smokers will
disagree, but it's the smoker's actions that intrude on my breathing, not
the other way around.
I used to have a sign in my studio:
"Cigarettes are your habit. The residue of your habit is smoke. It saturates
my hair, skin and clothes with out my permission. Beer is my habit. The
residue of my habit is urine. Would you mind if I stood on a chair and
pissed all over you? Let's make a deal; You smoke outside and I'll piss in
the bathroom."
I'm sorry for people who are addicted to smoking, but I really can't
understand them being offended when non-smokers don't want to be exposed to
it.

My boot/system HD is a Maxtor. My bios sees the Seagate drive, but Win98SE
does not. How the heck do I format this pup. I've been warned off any drive
formatting utilities that create overlays. So, I'd like to just use the
Windows FAT32 formatting thingy.
Thanks

Our pubs here are still smokey at this point, but the bans are on their way.
I must admit I hear what you're saying. There's a definate part of me that
likes the smokey pub thing. Don't get me wrong I'm in favour of the bans.
The bans helped finally tip the balance and make me quit... I figured if
the future said I wouldn't be able to smoke in pubs, I'd better get in early
so that, when the bans arrive, I'm still happy to be in a pub and not chewing
my nails nervously.
So I'm very happy the bans are on their way, but despite all the damage they
do, there's a part of me which feels sentimental about the whole thing, rightly
or wrongly. I don't even really know why actually. I will certainly look
back fondly on some of the good times I spent in pubs smoking though, even
though I think the change is certainly for the better.
Cheers,
Kim.You don't like it?
