That's right. Bet you never thought you'd see that.

So, here's the skinny.

This is a debug version that writes a text file to the c drive. If anyone
cares about this update, I'll remove the debug code and post a new version.

To paraphrase Scotty, this thing is bypassed like a Christmas tree.

The SMPTE module is clearly defective. However, I managed to feed it the
right parameters using callbacks at regular enough intervals to make it work
anyway.

LTC with NO jam synch works fine.

LTC with continuous jam synch works at the driver level, but the PARIS app
fucks it up. It sometimes refuses to rewind and keeps adding time to the
clock, even when we've rewound the smpte source. Sometimes, it works ok.
You can see that the driver is reporting the right time when you hit stop,
the display goes to the right time. Hit play, and it jumps ahead to where
we last stopped.

LTC with fixed jam synch seems to work ok, but I don't really trust it to
reverse the transport.

LTC with one time synch seems to be the same as jam synch.

You may need to set the jam type a couple of couple of times for it to stick.
I have to keep re-feeding the jam setting to the card to keep it from locking
up, and that can cause my code to reset it to what it was before you changed
it. Just try again.

I understand that there is some issue with VITC and greater than 24 hour
offsets. If anyone cares and has the equipment to work with me on it, I'll
try to fix it.

Enjoy!

Mike

I'm not at all familiar with the SMPTE module, never even seen one - but
verrrry interesting. Are you at the limits of what you can do with this
thing, or do you reckon there's a chance those bugs can be bypassed?

And this is the whole shooting match, isn't it? PARIS slaving as well as
being master?

Hi Mike,

I don't SMPTE or ADAT. I have a 2 card, 2 8in, 2 C16, 1 MEC system on XP
and I couldn't be happier. But I did want to say thank you very much for
helping us Paris users. Thank you for keeping Paris alive and current as
can be. You're the best thing since BT, AA and Chuck did all the XP updates
and videos. I love this group. Sorry if I missed anybody, because many of
you have also helped me with my equipment learning. I'm typing really fast
cause I got to go. Thanks again Mike. Wayne

Thanks, Wayne. :)

I'm going to keep chipping away at the driver. With a little luck, I'll
get it threadsafe, and we won't need to limit the PAIS app and driver to
one CPU anymore.

There will be more plugins, too.

All the best,

Mike

Holy Crap Mike,

Did you just say what I think you said?

You frighten me with your intellectual prowess.

Hi Dimitrios.

It's a bit of a hack, but it mostly works for LTC with the SMPTE card. It
completely breaks VITC, though.

If you want to try it, just replace the file at:
I:\WINDOWS\system32\Ensoniq\PlugIns\MEC\Driver

See my next post from some cool stuff. :)

Mike

Be sure to back up the original first.

Hi, Mark...hi, Kerry...hi, all...

excuse me for being the most dull forum user on earth's face, I don't see where's the "magic file" SMPTEUpddateDebug.zip, at least from my phone (even tried in desktop view mode). Can some angel point me to the file?
...Also, since I'm here: both the SMPTE card and OMF import/export remind mainly to synchronize Paris with the video domain, right?
Kerry kindly showed us that OMF export works quite fine using AAtranslator: but what about import?
Can a Paris Pro user invite a video pro and claim to successfully import an OMF session, without risk? If yes, what DAW/programs are compatible?

Sorry to remark this issue you likely discussed earlier.

Wow!
How cool is that.
As far as syncing Paris as slave to a SMPTE timecode, I actually did this many years ago. I really can't remember how I did it, and I've never had the PARIS SMPTE card. But I distinctly remember recording SMPTE timecode on my Fostex B16, (I used an ancient box called an XR300, which I still have), and used the varispeed on the Fostex to actually control the speed of PARIS. It was when I first got PARIS with one EDS card, and was mid project. It worked! I was able to slow the tape down, and record a vocal track down a couple of semitones on PARIS, as the singer couldn't reach the high notes. I thought it was pretty cool at the time. PARIS with VARISPEED!! I still have a cassette deck with varispeed, and I'm sure I could use it to control the speed of PARIS.
Cheers,
Kim
