Hey Sarah! I just bought your CD to be nice, OK?
I didn't expect to love it.
But that's some seriously great stuff! Great tunes, great sounds, great
performances... How long did it take to finish? Where are you located?
Do ever take this show on the road?

Well, thank you Gantt. We did, of course, expect you to love it, since we
do. We expect everyone to love it. :)
How long? Well, it actually represents a few years of "spare time"
interrupted by floods, remodellings, and deaths in families, including the
very unfortunate and far too young death of our violinist. When we finished
the CD, however, I took the session logs and figured out how much time we
actually spent in the studio. I calculated that it was about 7 months worth
of work spread out over about 5 years. We were busy . . . I was in nursing
school, the other Sarah was touring the world playing flute, and Rich and
Ryan were in other bands and teaching.
We're cruising on #2, though. Already have about half the demos done. I
expect the new CD out this fall, tentatively titled "Angel Food."
We're in Portland OR. And . . . at the urging of my fellow bandmates, I
have agreed to start rehearsals for some live gigs. I don't know about "the
road," but we'll definitely do some "shows" here.
Yes, "Chopsticks For Enya." I think Enya should hear that. She might like
it. It's a loving parody. :)

Local, eh . . . I had no idea. :) Well, we're gonna need a bassist,
violinist, and keyboardist. Maybe a saxist, as well. Some of these could
be combined, e.g., violinist or sax person who also plays keyboards. Vocal
ability a plus. Reading handy, too.

When you go to book the band and they ask, "What kind of music do you?" what
will you say?
I found it to be totally uncategorizeable... I heard echos of The Beatles,
Led Zeppelin, Enya, arrangements occasionally reminiscent of Steely Dan,
New Orleans jazz, old country blues. Whew!

Too bad Sarah missed our first (and only) Portland PARIS User Group meeting.
I definitely want to come out to see you Sarah. Haven't heard the CD but
from everyone's comments it sounds like I'll love it.
Jeff, I'm playing with Probable Cause this Friday night at Pyzano's in Aloha.
I know you're an east-side guy so it's probably too far to go, but they love
the band there.

That's a really good question, Gantt, and I'm open to suggestions. I
usually answer one of three ways:
1. Uh . . . rock, I guess?
2. Neo-psychedelic hard jazzy new age folk rock show tunes
3. I have no idea.
I could say "eclectic," but that's about as helpful as "I have no idea."
Maybe it's children's music. My doctor, my neice, and my co-producer all
have grade schoolers who are fans. :)

Neo-Americana-Semipsychedelic-Quirk-Rock?
Can't be kids music - I heard the "S-H" word, as my ten year old would say...
Although that'd only be PG nowadays.
I kinda like the " Neo-psychedelic hard jazzy new age folk rock show tunes"
idea.
My father's wife just bought a house in Portland. In spite of the fact that
she mostly can't stand us she was so happy about it that she said "You'll
have to come visit sometime". If a visit actually materializes and you get
to playing live I'd love to come hear you!

little town, though. The former Captain Beefheart guitar player lives
there, Zoot Horn Rollo AKA Bill Harkleroad, which in itself makes the place
cool.
