I used to work in the repair shop of our local music store (Washington Music
Center)
with a bunch of 20-something guys, one of whom was into bands like Slayer.
He gave me no end of grief when he foound out that I had once been in a
band that played "We Had Joy, We Had Fun, We Had Seasons in the Sun..." 2
or 3 times a night. The things I used to have to do to make a living.

Maybe I should do a "jazz" version of that.

Let's see... The therapy that my son needs for his assorted LD issues (that
our insurance does NOT pay for, of course... but that's a whole 'nother
topic.) comes to about $10,000. I'd be willing to forgo the Smooth Jazz
version of "Seasons in the Sun" for that! Of course, this is just the beginning.
Maybe I should hold out for more!

A long time I was playing a Christmas party with my friend Wade Matthews on
bass. The leader was fishing around for a tune to play. Suddenly Wade shouted
"White Christmas!!! Reggae style! It'll work! Trust me!".

And it did.

With skill and imagination, any tune can be done in any style. With sufficient
skill and imagination, it can even be pleasant.
</soapbox>

But for some styles, sufficient skill and imagination might not exist in
this universe.

McArthur Park instrumentally? Wow...

I had to play that one every night too for a while. Oh, the shame. I'm
old and I used to play in Top 40 Show Bands. There! I said it!

And anytime you hear that on the radio, it means the jock had to go

Or, he's got a chick in the studio, and needed some "microphone
