Looked that those...the interface has to be*simple*. I don't know if =
that's possible. We have an ADAT machine and a Mackie 1402 here. That's =
too complicated ............you get my drift?

Hi DJ,
EMU simple = No.
Unless she is Sonar the TC Konnekt8 or 24D is pretty rocking. driver and
chip set wise it works no better or worse than the other units in its
price range. The analog line and MIC-pre sound better than the other in
its price range. The effects on 24D can be used on input monitoring or
as a plug-in. using them on the input monitoring side is easy IMHO.
The effects are from the Powercore and run on hardware DSP.

Another option is the MOTU UltraLite.

The MOTU stuff is a mature product line and would work. If MIDI is not important,
a Paris system system with a 442 would also work. However, since your already
RME, it's probably the way to go.

I told you the effects were crap. The mic pre's are not good either.
I'm surprised about the latency and phasing issue though. Mine works perfect
with my little crappy G4 Power Book. Just plug it in and go. Oops, I forgot.
Mac's suck. It's probably just my imagination that it's working. ;>)
Seriously, I guess I've been extremely lucky that I don't have these kinds
of problems. I've always just assumed all the marketing hype was at least a
little true and Mac's really were better at "plug and play". Maybe, like I
say, I've just been lucky (knock wood). Anyway, sorry to hear about the
hassles.

You guys keep forgetting - he needs something with a reverb that
can be monitored real-time while tracking.
Remember what he wants: good mic pre, monitor-able reverb, but
tracking quality isn't all that important since he said he'd be
importing those rough tracks for do-overs later.
He basically needs a Radio Shack cassette player fed by a TC
Helicon VoiceWorks.

I've seen a lot of those Zoom H4 field recorders lately. 4 track. Effects.
Offloads to computer. Cheap. ($300) Supposedly easy to use once someone
shows you how.

Distinct possibility. The 'signature night' of this trip so far was dinner
at about 3 AM with the hip hop DJ I met in a club. He took me, his girlfriend,
and a few friends (all Thais save me, and all young, thin, and oppressively
gorgeous save me) out to some weird, ramshackle place that had 'the best
seafood in Thailand' and I ate stuff that looked pointedly prehistoric. But
it was all just so achingly good that after a while I just went along and
asked dumb questions about how to take the whole critters apart into smaller,
edible pieces. Incredible night.

the RME stuff, BTW. I'm loving mine. Glad I went in this direction though if

Hi Thad.. I'm a fan of RME seeing that I own 2 of their audio interfaces,
but to be honest, I'm more of an M-Audio fan. Their drivers are just wickedly
stable and fast.
Say what you want about their old 2496 audiophile card, but that card will
get you thru session for vsti, giga, or tracking.
Their newer cards have new converters that I will pit against any thing on
the market (Audiophile 192, Firewire 1814,410pro-light).
Digidesign made a very smart and wise purchase by adding M-Audio to their
roster. again, their driver support is their strong suit. I'm a big M-Audio
fan..
