I'm in a "gear rush" as well.
This is on my list: http://www.mercenary.com/apia2ddu312m.html
Also a pair of Quested S7 is on the way. http://www.quested.com/s/s7.asp
I'm also dreaming of this, http://www.apiaudio.com/2500.html
but that's for later in the year.

Believe it or not NOTHING. I'm making music now in Cubase 4 and I have everything
I need. Only took 32 years. Not bad. Oh and I could never ever consider
going back to Paris. Seriously. I'm getting stuff done where before all
I did was crash.

I have a rig I use for volume swells that fools engineer types
into thinking it's a kb string patch or even real strings, but
there is something about an eBow... And they are way cheaper
than another guitar.

that's nuts ! I'll just wait for the video and then buy samples and loops
and mix em and say I"m a musician!

what are you crazy man? Next you'll want to learn about music theory and
stupid stuff like scales.

Nothing needed here as well.

Doing fine with the dual G5, Logic, 828MII and a bunch of great physical
and virtual instruments. Plus suitably amazing graphics/animation/video
production apps.

Anything more I would want isn't being made yet.

Although if a Parker Fly Mojo dropped from the sky, that would be fun.

Cheers,

You know, I hear people talking about PARIS crashing all the time, but ours
never has, no matter how many things we're trying to make it do. And it's
still running on the old P-III we installed it on, with Windows '98, a mere
256 mb of RAM, and a whopping 26 gb of hard drive. I think an early version
used to lock up if you were in punch record and hit stop before you got to
the punch mark, but that was fixed. We're making our second CD on it now,
and I'm almost afraid to upgrade the computer. :)

Annointed by Crashes . . . Great band name.

Freeform . . . hmm . . . well, heh . . . I have to confess, I've never used
freeform mode. :) Sounds like maybe I'm not missing much?

Free form rocks. One of the best parts of PARIS.

I use a similar feature in Logic now, but without having to change modes.

Leave it alone. Seriously. Once I got my Paris computer working properly, I
didn't touch it for 4 years and it ran great the whole time as long as I
wasn't asking it to perform unnatural acts with other DAWs.

Hmmm my gear lust right now is for:
- RPG Skyline diffusers...would like about 30 of them
- custom desk with recessed monitors and lots of rack spaces
- New PA...active speakers and a couple of subs, and speaking of subs
- REL St series subwoofer for adding a little low end girth to my (absolutely
killer) ATC SCM50 mains.

Cheers All

Kris

PS: Been a while since I've been here. Glad to see the place still exists.
My studio is under construction and I expect to be using Paris again within
6 Months time

More room.

That's all I could really use right now.

Oh, and a PCI card-based rackmount nice & clean & trasparent
convertor set that can give me 16-analog in's at samplerates
higher than 48k... but since nobody makes that, I'd settle for
more space.

2X MOTU 2408MKIII with Black Lion Mods.
Pick up 2408s on eBay.
This is expandable to 32 I/O analog and a total of 98 I/O.
The current drivers are stable on XP and OSX, MOTU supports 64 bit drivers.
The Black Lion Mods are excellent and get my 2408s very close to my Mytek.

OK, I shoulda been clearer: "something that'll give me 16 analog
in's PER CARD" I already have 2 Multifaces, so I can get 16
balanced analog in's, total. The problem with that is with not
being able to properly monitor both cards at once.

Oooooooooh! That looks interesting!

So how do the MOTU convertors sound compared to the RME
(Multiface) ones?

Why not just get an RME HDSP-AES32 and a Lynx Aurora 16 and be done
with it...

Damn, that's about $4k's worth of hardware, though!

I don't mind spending a bit, but that's a REALLY BIG "bit"!

Have you ever tried an ebow? Pretty weird device. I wouldn't get too excited
unless you already know what it is.

Yeah, I've tried them. Takes a certain touch to sound musical.

I do that sound in other ways, but there are certain ways of
playing that I cannot do with my rig, and the thing is not
expensive, so I will probably get one. They used to sell them
at NAMM at a discount. but they put a stop to it... dangit.

My next purchase is either a Yamaha U3 upright acoustic piano or some A/D/A
converters. I would buy the Apogee Rosetta 800s but I'm waiting for AES
to see if the next version includes the Big Ben clock.....

You can pick up the Nuendo branded RME ADI8-DS units on EBay for
$500-$800.00 these days. I scored one for $550.00 about a month ago.

Not even on the last day, when they realize: "shit, now we've

I don't need 192... nobody needs 192.

88.2 on the other hand - now, EVERYONE needs that!

The stock 2408MKIII converters are similar in quality to the Multiface. I
would give the Multiface a slight edge, but the modified 2408MKIII is a definite
step up. Very open sounding. Not quite up to Prism, Mytek or Cranesong but
better than RME.

The selling of demo items still goes on, but eBow used to
sell hundreds of 'em like it was a store at their booth...

They may have been tagged for violating state franchise laws...
they are, in fact, a manufacturer/wholesaler, as opposed to a
retailer - it's OK to let a scant few demo items go to the end-
user under those circumstances, but if you start selling in
volume without being licensed as a retailer, some states tend to
want to fine you for that (esp if they weren't collecting state
taxes for the state said NAMM show in question was held in).

There was a time where, as Neil suggested, they used to sell
all the floor samples... often in the first few minutes of
the show! :-) Good reason to get there early! Lately, you
will find instruments being sold, but not the hardware. I
still see the same pieces (with the same scuff marks) in the
racks that were there last year and the year before that.
