I'm guessing Edmund is on that team! grrr Guess I'm gonna have to sell
the freaking car to get Protools. Who would ever want to make music when
you can dink around your whole life with crappy software instead.

Can you tell I'm pissed ? Updates SOON.

This is why I never get version "point-zero" of ANYTHING. Or at
least I try to avoid it until I find out from other people if
it's relatively bug-free.

Sorry to hear this, John. Can you back out to v3.xxx? At least
then you'll be able to work until they release v4-point-bugfix.

If you have a good rapport with your audio goods dealer you
probably can... otherwise when v4-point-bugfix comes out, you
just download it & go.

A while back you were talking about moving files from SX to Paris for mixing
- did you ever perfect the method? If so what's the best way to do it -
enlighten me :-)

What exactly is the problem? Cubase 4 works fine here, though I've only
used it for a few projects but it worked great (Nuendo mostly for edit mode,
etc). I know several users on the Cubase forum reported problems, but
that's status quo there. There are quite a few that reported no problems at
all. It isn't perfect, but maybe there's another issue here.

Rich, I just set up the Paris PC with a LAN card (the Cubase
PC's mobo has a built-in LAN port), and a crossover cable connecting the
two LAN ports... set up a shared folder that both
PC's can access & voila'!

On the Paris PC I had to manually install the drivers that came
with the network card, because WinME didn't have a driver for
it. Then I used the Windoze network setup wizard on both PC's to
get the connection recognized. Wasn't too bad - took maybe 45
minutes to an hour total from unwrapping the card to having both
PC's talking to each other.

Thirty-nine bucks at Best Buy for the network card, and I think
$27 for the crossover cable.

That's the problem with people like us that actually USE the features. We
are the ones that find out they don't work !

Not a single crash so far, but the bugs are real functionality bugs. I like
it better than Paris so far but have not done a major sound check. I hope

This works fine here. What are you doing specifically? I added 10 mono
audio tracks, put them in a folder,
linked 4 of them in the mixer, enabled record on the folder (all 10 tracks),
recorded audio on all 10.

I read this thread but I don't understand why you are trying to pan the kick
hard left.
Remember, you are working with bus groups and internal panning, not panning
to ASIO driver
outputs as you would for a mixer. Stereo groups works fine. I sent some of
the mono tracks above
to a stereo group, panned them and they came out panned in the group. A
stereo group is a stereo sum
of any tracks you send to it. What's not working for you?

Confirmed. I hadn't run across this in other projects, but did recreate it
on a different machine.

Dedric, thanks as always for your help. Here's the sticking points for me.

10 audio tracks in a folder, record enable all 10,
Link all 10 and then try to record. Only the first one in the link records.
Other have confirmed this behaviour too. Also if I just link channels 9
and 10 1 through 8 record, 9 records but 10 does not. It's like only the
first channel in the linked channels record.

I have sends from kick, snare and hihat audio tracks going to Stereo Group
Channel 1 all prefader with ''Link Send Routing Panners to Channel panner'
enabled on each channel. I am doing Prefader intentionally.

The kick is panned hard left and comes through the group channel hard left
even with kick fader pulled down (prefader passes it), but snare is hard
right and it's coming through in the center on the group channel.

If I open Send Routing I can drag the pan around there and it moves the track
in the group but shouldn't the ''Link Send Routing Panners to Channel panner'
do this automatically?

Not sure what to tell you - this does work here. Try creating an empty
project,
add 10 tracks, add a folder, move to folder, link any of the tracks, record
enable all
(or the folder) - record. If that doesn't work, then something could be
buggy with the install.
Maybe there is something else you are doing in the process that I'm not that
is
causing this.

"Record enable selected channel" of course has no impact here, so that isn't
it, and it
shouldn't be related.

I understand now - sorry John, I didn't catch on at first. Yes, it should.
It's broken in C4.
Works in Nuendo 3.2.

No doubt C4 needs some work. Great potential, once it all works correctly.

Have you actually encountered these bugs John, or are you just going on what
the forum says?

To be fair and balanced.......It has all the features I want if only my thick
head can figure out how to use them or workaround bugs. It does appear
pretty buggy right off though.

Martin, The link channel fader bug and the "potential" group sends bug (maybe
there's a workaround) are ones I discovered. The mixer preset bug I have
not tried yet but it's really an amazing oversight if it's true.

I'm still jealous that you did Air Supply !!! Still great great tunes.

So I have to wait for 944 upgrades before it gets good? Ouch.

Nah, that # just means 944 more lines of code than v3.1.1.000.

:D

I found the problem with the Link Send Panning. I had set my pans exactly
where I wanted them and THEN clicked on "Link Send Routing Panners to Channel
Panner". Guess what? The Send stays CENTERED U N T I L you move the panner.
As soon as you move the pan on the audio channel the send pan follows perfectly.
So the lesson for me is to enable the LSRPtCP before I set my pans.

I have a lot more to read apparently. That's GOOD. Better that then have
a very buggy app. Now I'm back on track.
