Had my second run in with Vista over the past few days. What an effin pig.
Nevertheless for Deej and other insane people, here's a useful link.

Oh yeah! We're all jealous over Fista. That gorgeous UI, I wonder where
they got it from??? I especially like the aqua bubble, how creative.

Soon Leopard will eat Vista.... evil grin: )

I'm not a "zealot," just a mostly satisfied OSX user. And I'm not all
that big, really, even after that last bowl of ice cream.

Maybe that's why, so far, Vista hasn't impaired my ability to
communicate in any measurable way. :^)

However I did run an earlier version of Cakewalk once and noticed a
great deal of room for improvement. Perhaps they've made that self-help
journey by now and the whole Cakey/Vistish package might just tweak the
hopes of someone with OSX-envy. ;^)

But anyhoo, speaking of UI flashiness I'm pleasantly distracted by how
much Beryl on Linux appears to work like OSX. No doubt Thad will not
deign to install it because that flashy stuff is for weenies, but it
looks fairly nice to me. Might be a good use for a Dell...

Cheers,
-Jamie

Well, Beryl doesn't let me write email, fix broken machines, compose music,
or use Emacs any better/faster. I did turn it on in Feisty but that was on
a laptop with shared video memory on an integrated video card, so it couldn't
do much.

There are some things I might like about it. Window transparency can be useful.
The desktop switching even I have to admit is pretty cool, though I have
hotkeys to switch between desktops so it would be mostly something I'd so
other people.

I guess it just comes down to the fact that for me a computer is every but
as much a tool as a hammer. If a change doesn't help me drive nails faster,
or straighter, or with less work I don't care about it. Some (many? most?)
people feel differently.
