Hi Chuck!
Howahhya?
Hey, I just checked and the fiend order page sez "in stock".
I have not used it. I was interested because when Ya-ha-ha
discountinued the UD-Stomp (just the most amazing 8-delay pedal
ever made) they said "oh, don't worry the MagicStomp has most of
the same sounds"... The UD had a bunch of presets from Allan
Holdsworth that honestly, kicked my butt all the way to Cleveland,
including a "volume swell" patch that allowed me to do orchestral
parts on my 12-string strat that fooled a classical music fan friend
into thinking it was real strings... Pretty damn impressive. UD's
are now going up in value every month on ebay (Holdsworth uses
2 of them at once and has a closet full)
So, if the MagicStomp is even in the leaque with the UD, it is worth
way more than the 79.00...
I sent an email to a friend who is a friend and student of Allans. I'll
let you know what he says about the MagicStomp as soon as he
gets back to me.

oh hey, I just listened to the vol swell example and it sounds like
the UD version so far. There's a bunch of samples. The reverb
sounded pretty good too.

I've had one for awhile now... I wouldn't call it a "must-
have", but it's definitely worth more than the $79 they're
asking. Some pretty nice sounds, and it's very clean in terms
of having a nice high quality of sound.
Not very good for superhard rock/metal (the distortions don't
really cut it in those genres), but it's got some nice crunch-
type distortion tones & good bluesey ones also. Reverbs are OK,
but I wouldn't track with those anyhoo, and the modulation EFX
are nice, as well. The compressors are very good (for guitars),
IMO. I haven't had the occasion to use it on any recordings
yet, but this is my impression just from testing it out &
messing around with it some. Pretty good box overall & pretty
versatile.
And the USB connector isn't for recording, it's for an
interface to its software for editing/saving presets, but you
can also do that with drill-down menus accessed via the buttons
on the box itself.

Hey, how do you like that pickup? Do you have a preamp for it?
To do the orchestra sound, you need a good volume pedal. I like
the passive Ernie Ball ones best. Get the right impedance model
for your source impedance. (this will depend on your preamp if you
have one)
Go from the pedal to a DI or instrument preamp and then to a good
parametric and then a compressor. Your acoustic will sound
different than my solid body, so my EQ curve won't work, but what
I was doing was a LO shelf at around 1K corner and cut to taste.
This was to emulate the rising response of a guitar amp without
the crappy sound of a guitar amp. Slide the shelf freq around and
you should find something you like.
You want moderate, but not extreme compression.
Now ideally, you will hit a reamp box and go to the MagicStomp,
then back to 2 channels of your DAW. (some gain may be required
here) If you can't do it this way, you can hit the MagicStomp first
and then the other boxes, but I don't like the sound as well that
way, and you will need 2 of everything to keep things stereo, and
you really do want to keep things stereo...
Now, think orchestrally. Use inversions and chordal groupings that
open the space up between the notes more. Try these inversions
higher on the neck. You can't do much strumming. Hit just the
notes you want, then slide the volume in with the pedal...
You only need 2-3 notes in each chord with a 12-string. Musically
a little goes a long ways here.

It's been so long since I've played it that I can't remember how I like it
to be honest. It's in the shop right now getting some maintenance done. In
this dry climate, it can get wonky pretty fast if I forget and let the
humidifier run low in the guitar room. Now that we are cranking up to do
some recording of our own, I'm getting it up to speed. Next thing that will
need to get up to speed will be my hand strength and calluses.
I've got all ther stuff here that you suggested to get this happening so
I'll give it a go with the Yammy and let you know what I think.
BTW, MF still has these in stock.....at least I ordered one and got an order
confirmation. I guess I'll know for sure when I get a shipping confirmation.
