Can't Record in 442 and MEC simultaneously... HELP!!! [message #102524] Mon, 16 February 2009 13:46 Go to next message

Hey guys, can anyone help me with this issue? I have a MEC with one 8in card
and a 442 hooked up to two EDS-1000 cards. I am getting signals to all my
inputs on both units. My MEC inputs are assigned to Submix A and my 442
are assigned to submix B. I can record on the MEC all channels but I can
not get the 442 to receive a signal in the software. I see the signal coming
through on the 442 hardware but it will not come through on the Mix B section.

Can anyone help me get this going?

Thanks,
John Cookman

Hi John,

Is the 442 showing up in the patchbay? Routing all correct?
Clock cables hooked up? Other audio plays on Card B?
Hmmm?

yes. everything works as it should except i can't get Mixer B to show any
signal from the 442 when i enable record on the mixer.

tracks play from mixer B like normal.

the 442 shows up in the patchbay... and i can route the 442 to mixer B.

i connected the MEC to card B and i have the same problem. i see signal
on the mec. i route it to Mixer B and record enable but i get no signal
showing in Mixer B.

i connected the 442 to card A and it works as it should... meaning i can
record through the 442 like normal.

i've also flip flopped the cards pci slots and the same thing happens. so
its not one of the cards.

also both the mec and the 442 work with both cards when i only have 1 installed.
then when i both both back in... no matter which in the master... the problem
occurs.

i have and eds-1000X and a eds-1000. could this be the issue... running
to different type cards?

i've had this system for a long time but it hasn't been setup for a couple
years. i got a paris system back in the 1.0 days... very early.

sorry for the long post... thanks for everyone's time. i'm just stuck.
maybe all this description will help one of you guys think of something i
haven't.

thanks.

John,

I'm not sure how the EDS 1000 plays into this. I thought
it didn't allow effects and that was the only difference from
a 1000X.???

I know I had this same sort of problem with three cards and 2 Mecs.
The second Mec had to be connected to the first and last EDS cards
for them to work properly. Doesn't seem like this is your problem
with only two cards though.

I hope someone else can chime in here. I know 442s can be finicky
in multi card systems. Some say that it has to be connected to the Master
card. Might try that and put the Mec on card B just to see.

Good luck,
Tom

thanks Tom.

yeah i did that... put the 442 on card A and mec on card B. the 442 works
fine that way... but then i can't get the mec inputs to record on card B.
it's very strange.

If my recollection is accurate, EDS1000 and EDS 1000x are the same card, the
"x" just indicated cards that were sold with crossover cables (the ribbon
connectors that connect the EDS cards inside the computer); the ones without
FX daughterboards are EDS500 cards.

How are your ribbon connections between the cards, all solid? No bent or
oxidized pins etc?

john,

Are you using a word clock or did you connect the word clock connectors
on the two units? Also, if you could post a screen shot of the patch bay.

I think it is a 75 ohm cable. If the mec is connectd to card A, go from
the Mec word CLock out to the 442 WC in (at least in my mind. Haven't
had Paris out for a couple months)

:-)

It should work fine without termination, but if you want to, you can put
a 75 Ohm terminator at the output of the last device.
