I really don't know what to do.
I haven't posted here in a while, but I read often (when I have time). I
decided to focus on my studio and get it up to par and more
functional......specifically wanting to sync up with Logic, and integrate
the mix buss of Paris with all the new cool stuff of Logic......and nothing
but troubles.
Sorry for the long post.........ignore it if you wish.
I originally thought it was my old Magma 7 slot that was the issue, but it
is not. Because after giving up on the new PC I built (see the PC problems
below), I tried just the MAC with 2 cards, and the same sound issues.
I am using an old G4 1.25 running OS 9.2.2 running Paris 3.0, and I cannot
get sound to come into, or out of, my second or third MEC. (I have 2 input
cards, one output card, and one ADAT card in each MEC). Even if I only hook
up 2 MEC's, the second one will not put out any audio. I can play back
recorded tracks and get them to come out the master output on any submix,
but none of the extra outputs will work (effect external out, or channel
insert external out........on either the analog outs, or ADAT outs). This
problem was also there when I used my Magma, so I attempted to switch to PC
because my Magma has REALLY noisy fans.
I was hoping someone who is running a multiple card Multiple MEC setup could
shed some light on this......it is driving me crazy. Is this a bug that I
never heard about? These same EDS1000 cards passed audio when hooked up to
the PC (although I had other issues)
--------------On another entirely different note---------------
......I built a PC to try to run 4-5 cards without the Magma, and had nothing
but trouble with unhandled exception errors (usually 7c93426d at location
0048c425, although I had one other number that I didn't write down). I
thought it was my video card because of the IRQ sharing, So I pulled the
EDS1000 card out of the slot that was sharing that IRQ (the BIOS would not
allow me to set it differently than the video card no matter what I
did.....the PCIe video slot followed my manual settings of this slot.....in
addition it was SLOT 4 of 5 that was the issue, not 1 which is next to the
video card PCIe slot....also very weird I thought). To make matters worse
SLOT 1 and 5 would always assign the same IRQ even if I manually set them in
the BIOS as different. I am not sure if this caused the problem, because
frankly I am not willing to only use 3 cards so I never tried this......that
was the whole reason to switch to a PC (in addition to the new
plugs.....that sound great by the way, even the little bit I have
heard........BRAVO!!! Mike A.)
I am running a Gigabyte GA-P35-S3G MB, with a Intel Duo. The video card is a
PCIe GeForce 8400GS Dual head card 512M.
I thought the mother board would be perfect because it had 5 PCI slots (hard
to find these days).....I guess I should have checked here and asked all the
experts that have been down this road (I feel stupid now). I know enough to
be dangerous with PC's, but I am not stupid either, and can handle most
things). I could get the system to fire up and it worked with 5 cards, but
would always act up when I started plugging in effects. If I didn't plug in
effects, it seemed to be fine. I also had a side problem in with the new
effects that Mike made....although I was really excited to get them, my
original compressor would not pass sound, only the new Paris compressor. He
said that should be a problem, so I really don't know what is going on.
Now I think I have more issues than just the compressor plug not working
right. I am open to any and all help.......And I may very well need to find
an old computer that has already been set up to run Paris. I don't need it
to do anything else, so just about anything will be fast enough. Although I
want at least 2 monitors (preferably 3 or 4....that would be just awesome!)
Do I have a bad EDS card maybe??? I have six total and have used as little
as 4 in different combinations with both the PC and MAC.
I refuse to give up.......I WANT MY PARIS.......do I sound like a little
brat? I can't help it.......I can't find ANYTING that comes close to this
sound.....even today with modeling plugs......nothing kicks as much
Am I dreaming......is there any hope for this Gigabyte MB.
Anybody have an old PC that will run at least 4 EDS cards (preferably 5 or
6) with a double head video card?
I fell like a drug addict........I gotta have it man!!!........oh.....and I
am a major control freak, so it is VERY hard to even ask for help......it
took me 3 weeks of trying crap before I gave in.
:-)
-Bradley
PS. I am going to break down and try only 2 or 3 cards in the PC and see
what I can find out.......I'm tired......going to bed......tomorrow is
another day.
Thank for letting me ramble.

IF you can find one, the old Asus A7s333 has been notably stable for years
with me here and an AMD 1900+
I have had as many as 4 cards in it with multiple video outs w/o problems,
but I used a beefed power supply too so you want to make sure a 600w or
better supply is in the deal.

Hey Mike - I can duplicate the compressor issue - the original PARIS
compressor [the one that shows up as "Compres (M > M)" in the EDS fx
list] is no longer passing audio here either. And now that I think
about it, I noticed it didn't when I first installed everything a
couple of months ago.
Not that I'd use it much considering the better compressors you've
built, but FYI if it helps troubleshoot this.

I have Patriot DDR2 800 MHz 2 GIG sticks (2 of them)......you think they may
be bad?
I have an old memory checker program I could run on them......or will that
not test it thoroughly enough?
My clock is fine.
I have tried both the Task Assign app, and your new PSCL, with no luck.
I think it has something to do with a particular PCI slot (and/or IRQ), as
it seems to only lock up when I use the 3rd instance of the compressor on
the C submix......A and B seem to run fine. I can insert 8 compressors, but
when I open each one up to adjust them, the third one always throws out the
exception......weird huh?
I am going to try some trouble shooting tonight and try just 3 cards and
swap some card in and out to see if it is hardware, or if it is the shared
IRQ on slot 1 and 5. I can get 3 distinct IRQ's, just not 4.
I will let you know what happens.
Thanks again!!

Hi Brad,
It sounds to me like you might have a bad effects daughterboard on one of
your cards. testing the ram is a good idea, but it can sometimes miss things.
You could also try manually relaxing the memory timings in the bios.
The IRQs shouldn't matter, unless you have another driver on the same IRQ
that is misbehaving.
Let me know how it goes.

Not sure if this is related to your problem or not since one of your MECs is
passing audio, but there have been problems in the past with the compressor
not passing audio.
You don't happen to have Chucks "PC Freebies" plugs installed do you? If so,
get rid of them and try it again.

PN,
Thank you for the tip......you were right, the freebie pack was causing the
original compressor not to pass audio.
I have also found some interesting things out.......not that I know the
answers, but I thought.....no better place to share then here....I hope
someone can get to the bottom of this.
I feel like I have tried almost everything I can think of.....and I still
keep getting an unhandled exception error.........but since I can now use
the original Paris compressor......it now appears to only error when I use
the 3rd instance of the new "Paris Compressor", and only on the 3rd EDS
card. I have successfully used 8 instances of the "Paris Compressor" on the
first 2 cards
The other 2 cards work fine.....or it seems, but I haven't really focused on
them because of the 3rd card.......I will next week when I get back in town
(gone for a week)
When I use the original M > M Compressor, I have great success, and no
unhandled exception errors..........and I have replaced the 3rd card with 3
other cards and I get the same problem, so I don't think I have a bad EDS
card (I have 6 total card, so I swapped out the third one three times). I
guess I could try card number 2.....does that sound like it could be a
possibility....does the card have to pass any instructions to the next card
that might cause this lock-up?
By the way, sometimes, I don't get the error. Sometimes when I insert each
"Paris Compressor" on the channel, and then open them up to adjust them or
to load a preset (instead of just inserting them without opening
them).....sometimes on the third instance I get the plug-in window where you
choose what plug-in you want, and I cannot click the OK or cancel
button......the button depresses, but the window will never go away.......no
matter what.....I can't even end the process with task manager.....I can
only close out Paris, I can't end the process that is choosing the effect.
Any Ideas???......I hope this helps Mike.
I was thinking that it might be another developed plug-in, but I didn't
really want to start taking them all out.
Can anyone else duplicate this problem?
This is on my new XP-Pro Core-Duo machine. I am downloading the new PSCL
tonight, but I get the problem even when I run only one processor for Paris,
so I don't think that is the issue.
If anyone else has a 3 or more card setup on an XP-Pro dual core machine, I
would be interested to see if you have the same problem, or even a similar
one.
At least I think I can move on somewhat........My studio is such a mess with
all this stuff laying around because of trying different things. I want to
test it a little more, and if it is "just" the new "Paris Compressor", I
probably can work around it for now......I just want to move on.
Maybe someone else has some input or ideas.
Thanks for listening.
