I imported a stereo audio track as a guide track for some OD's tomorrow. I'm
getting clicks and pops. Import the same file into Wavelab, no clicks and
pops. I also batch converted a project that was recorded in Paris to .wav
files. The files play back perfectly with no artifacts in Wavelab but
importing them into Cubase 4 causes clicks and pops. I also have a bunch of
projects here that were batched in Wavelab and then imported to projects in
Cubase SX 3.0.2. These play back just fine when opened in Cubase 4. This is
leading me to believe that there is a bug in Cubase 4 (but not in Cubase SX
3.0.2) that causes clicks and pops when importing CD audio files or files
that are batched in WL from other formats.

This is the first real show stopper in Cubase 4 that I've experienced, but
it's a major one.....very major.....very F***"IN MAJOR!!!!!

;o(.

When you imported the files, (and I do NOT have v4, so I don't
know if you get the same prompt), did you get a window popup
asking if you wanted to convert the files to the bitrate &
samplerate set in the project defaults? If so, did you tell
it "yes"? (You need to do this).

ALSO... were your project defaults settings set to the same
bitrate & samplerate as the imported files? If not, try that
first.

DJ,

I've never had a problem with CD imports, or wavs from Nuendo, Sequoia,
Final Cut pro (Mac), Adobe Audition, or other apps (though no Paris files
here). It sounds like the wav files from Paris convert are the issue, and
possibly a Wavelab batch convert issue. Header differences perhaps?

Export the guide audio track to a bcast wav in Wavelab (not batch convert)
and import that into C4 and see if you have problems. If you have problems
download the 30 day demo of Audition 2.0 - it's fully functional for 30 days
and has a batch convert - just might get you out of this jam more quickly.

I don't know if r8brain will convert without a sample rate change, but it
might be an option as well. Header investigator also might lend a clue as
to what is amiss with these files - almost sounds like Wavelab is passing
through some incorrect header info that C4 is looking at (SX3 may also be
ignoring header/meta data).

Regards,
Dedric
