If your wanting to delay via eds, just put the delay on an aux (or 2 and
pan them)that way you could use your delay for other channels if you want
also. Or, use 2 mono examples of the native effect you wanting, just like
your doing with the delay.
Or, render the native effects (stereo, using the sample editor)

flexibility and then pick up a sampler for the rest of it. For example, in
my music I simply could not live without Atmosphere from Spectrasonics. If
I had to buy an iMac just to run it I would, though thanks be to Marduk I
don't. Second up would be electric pianos and for me the NI electic piano
instrument is worth every penny even if it only does one thing. After that
for a lot of other instruments VSampler and a decent sample library is more
than good enough. So it sounds to me like you should get the B4, buy the
acoustic piano instrument you like the best and then get a general purpose
sampler for the rest.
One more thing, you might want to check out Komplete from NI.

DonIf you're looking at doing this for local commercial
production, I'd say it almost doesn't matter, as long as you
can get some ass-whomping special effects as needed, becasue as long as you
can burn the spots off to a format that the TV
stations can use (Beta SP is still widely in use, but many
stations now accept DVD's), it won't matter - it's not as if
you'll be swapping work from your facility to another. If
you're talking about doing this to get into music videos for
local bands, then again, I don't think it matters, because the
point there will be to offer a package that's cheap enough to
make it possible for the bands to afford, from shooting to
editing.
In either case, I think you might need to conside

>Well, I'm back from the family gatherings and wondering if anyone got any
new toys for Christmas. I was a good boy last year. I got a Focusrite
Saffire interface for my Powerbook and an Audix mic pack with three i5's and
a D6! Yahoo!
Anyone else get some good studio goodies?
TonyA belated Merry Christmas to everyone! Just getting back to
the group after all the Christmas madness! :-)
Gene pretty much nailed it with a post a while back, the
Bosie' would be fine for classical stuff. Having a multi
sample library would give you more options. My personal
taste leans to the Bosie' for Classical, a Steinway for
light Jazz or A/C, and a Yamaha C7 for Rock, Pop and
Country. Not to say that others might not work well, but
that is generally what I lean towards. We only have a C7 in
the studio, so I have to be really careful with mic'ing for
Classical stuff. Otherwise it's really up to the player as
to the texture they can get out of a real piano.

It really doesn't pay to get a super screaming machine for
Paris... the only thing you will gain is higher native
plugin counts. Paris itself runs quite happily on the
single processor machines of 2 - 3 years ago. One album I
did in 2001 on a 5 card Paris rig hit 64 tracks with quite a
few plugs... all running on a PII-450 / WinME. Never had a
single glitch the whole time.
Paris will only run on single CPU machine AFAIK (but I could
be mistaken)... even if you disable SMP I don't think Paris
would be very happy.

>Dave, thanks for the reply. As for his setup, he's wanting to run a bunch
of Waves native plugins. True Verb just kills his current rig (Athlon XP
1.2). On the one hand, it might not be the worst idea for him to move to
some other recording system at this point. On the other, he's used to Paris
and it was hard enough to get him into the whole idea of recording on a
computer in the first place, I'm not sure moving to an all-native system
would be a good idea. But he loves Waves, and currently he's running into
limitations with his current rig. And I don't think I can talk him into
shelling out for a full blown PT HD rig at this point, even though that
would probably be ideal for what he's wanting to do. So Paris running with
native Waves for now. So I guess go with as fast of a single CPU setup as
possible?

to port apps over to the Intel Macs? From real sources, not marketing people?
I'm guessing it will be fairly easy as long as developers have been playing
by the rules.
TCBAnother way of putting it is that Apple is a computer company with a
strong presence in the creative community, building a parallel business
around the marketing of creative works. There's a synergy between the
two lines that seems to be helping both.
BTW, it's ridiculous to have to pay for either MacOSX or WiXP if what
you really want is a Linux box.
How hard is it to make your app run on both PPC and Intel OSX? With
Rosetta it may already run unchanged.
From the "Universal Binary Programming Guidelines":
"Rosetta is a translation process that runs a PowerPC binary on an
Macintosh using an Intel microprocessor—it allows applications to run as
nonnative binaries. Many, but not all, applications can run translated.
Applications that run translated will never run as fast as they run as a
native binary because the translation process itself incurs a processing
cost. How compatible your application is with Rosetta depends on the
type of application. Applications that have a lot of user interaction
and low computational needs, such as a word processor, are quite
compatible. Those that have a moderate amount of user interaction and
some high computational needs or that use OpenGL are, in most cases,
also quite compatible. Those that have intense computing needs aren’t
compatible. This includes applications that need to repeatedly compute
fast Fourier transforms (FFTs), that compute complex models for 3-D
modelling, or compute ray tracing. "
OK, so how hard is it to make your app run NATIVELY on both PPC and
Intel OSX?
