I am cobnvinced now that the best workuing method for triggering drums and
making a great drum production is at least also the following:
I bought me Digisound drumtriggers for 15 euros 8 pieces.
I attached them on sanre tom kick using doublesided adhesive tape and put
their output DIRECTLY to a SEPARATE Paris input module along with normal
recorded drums.
No preamp needed !!!
Just hook it unbalanced to Paris in and you get a healthy recorded sound
that sounds AWFUL but healthy enouph to drive DRUMAGOG, yes that beauty plugin.
Amazing results no false triggering because you actually use the sound and
not some fance trigger to midi to sound thing...
Just tailor drumagog to trigger the right way.
By the way their snare is fabulous.
These triggers are touch sensituive so you record the actual drumming with
volume variations.
The drumagog snae is multisampled (many many samples there) from very low
hits to very loud.
Vwery very convincing...
So you record different tracks , kick snare toms and yiou put drumagog on
every one with appropriatte samples.
Use your drum overhead for some room ambience or you cam use some good reverb
for creating that.
You can also attach them to cymbals !!.
I am sure it will work just fine.
The hihat is a problem though so kepp this live ! :)
You can kepp all your cymbals live by the way ...
Perfect world we live in right?
ow I will not care if I will record that perfect snare that will not contain
that hihat again in it...
Regards,
Dimitrios

Live would be impossible hearing drumagog playing because for best triggering
it uses around 50ms delay ...
It has a live feature which sounds but in my system at least...
Also I don't thjink Paris monitors VST/DX when recording.
You have to have another audio card running VST for live monitoring...
I am sure with some exhausting tests you may come up with a working solution
but in any case you moght need a second computer with audio card for that...

Thanks Dimitrios! I'd be running it in Logic on a fast Mac. But if it
has an operating delay then you're right, it won't work for live
performance.

Well, it is in my current set up also, but I was thinking in the mind set of
using Drumagog to replace the drums completely through triggers rather than
just augmenting them. I use Drumagog to "add" to my acoustic drum tracks all
the time, but sometimes I'd like to have totally synth or whacked out drum
kit sounds. I thought about using triggers and mesh heads on a second "el
cheapo" drum kit to get a poor man's Roland TD-20 if you will. I could never
go completely electronic with the drums. As good as some of the electronic
kits out there are, they still don't have all the nuances of real drums.

Jamie,
Drumagog will trigger fine live. In "live" mode, Drumagog has almost zero
latency, but the accuracy is lower as far as dynamic tracking. It tracks
your playing just fine, but it won't be as accurate choosing which sample to
play back. This sounds worse than it really is and I think it would work
just fine for live triggering.
Here's what the Drumagog site says:
"Live Triggering Mode: This zero-latency mode is designed for use in a live
Drumagog setup. For example, when using Drumagog as an insert on the main
console in a live concert performance, or using Drumagog as a "drum brain"
for drum trigger pads. However, it doesn't offer the same triggering quality
as the other modes, and is only recommended for use in situations that
demand zero latency."

Thanks Tony! That's encouraging, I'll have to see if anyone local can
give a demo.
