This mic lives up to every bit of rabid praise I have ever heard about it
and didn't believe because I thought it was just a bunch of hype. It is not
hype at all.

Nope DJ.These are cool, but I'm eyeing the Korby Kat.. Multi Kapsules. Amazing
versions of said vintage mics.

The Vinatage audio dealer Vinatge King is my area 9Ferndale Michigan) and
they gave me a demo..MAN!!!! C12/251 sopt on. Neumans Capsules ..Spot on..
I'm saving my pennies. This is just the kinfd of investment that's smart
and versitile.Personaly, I've been in recoring since the early 80s and this
whole vinatge, boutique thing is pure BS.. Sorry, but, these parts , and
the time it takes to buld these units dose not justify their price. Sooner
or later, the Chinese will start making these Vinatge items at a reasonalble
price.

Hey LaMont,
I totally get what your're talking about and I think there are plenty of
great mics out there are very reasonable prices.
I do not have extensive experience with big closets full of expensive vintage
microphones and have only limited experience with a couple of older U47's.
What (IMO) you are paying for with this mic, compared to the other U47 wannabee
mics I have tried (Peluso 2247 and SE Gemini in my particular case) is nuance.....which
really starts to become a pleasant surprise the closer to the source you
get so that the proximity effect can come into play in cardioid mode. Intimacy
seems to be it's strong point.
I have directly A/B'ed it with the Peluso 2247 and an SE Gemini, I am extremely
(and in the case of the Peluso and SE, surprisingly) impressed by all of
the mics. The fact that the SE and Peluso are holding their own is a testament
to their design and workmanship, IMO.
Is there a difference???.......yes. Is there a $4,500.00 difference???......maybe.
We're talking microphones/nuance and the way a mic interracts with a particular
source signal here. This microphone is primarily for my wife. She's got a
bit of an Allison Krause vibe to her pipes and neither the Peluso or SE are
floating her boat. I will agree that they are not the best match for her
voice. She likes my SPA U87 quite a bit..it is a better match for her.....but
she has not fallen in love with it to the point where she feels comfortable
with what she hears when she gets up close and personal when addressing the
capsule/grille. OTOH, she is in love with what this mic does.
The magic of this mic is up close stuff. You can get right up about 3" from
the grille and hand it a vocal and as you start crowding it, what you hear
is a mellifluous/very musical distortion and extremely pleasant midrange.
the combination of the M7 capsule and the circuitry is a nice blend of top
end clarity and warm tubularity in the midrange without any ugly artifacts,
even when crowded hard....really hard.
By comparison, both the Peluso, the U87 and to a lesser degree, the SE don't
respond the same way. I have had great success here other singers with both
the SE and Peluso....just not with Amy and she is going to be the primary
user of this mic. We were looking for something to suit her voice. I must
say though that it even makes my crappy sounding voice sound good. There
is some magic happening with this mic.
I'm sure the Korby is a great choice and the versatility factor is not to
be denied.

Hey Deej,
What tubes do you have in your Gemini? I had an NOS Mullard and an old Telefunken
in mine and began getting some ugly noises on transients so I just stuck
the stock tubes back in. Haven't had a chance to try it this way yet...
