Hi folks. Nowadays we often see folks asking "what PC configuration is recommended for PARIS nowadays?" on the forums and NG.

Mike's new drivers will motivate many folks to take the upgrade plunge. Some of them will undoubtedly be PARIS Mac users making the transition to PC for the first time; they'll want pretty explicit instructions and specific parts lists (I needed them myself).

I'd love to set up a database to organize the community's collective insights (and new discoveries) about working/stable systems, but I don't think I have the skills to do the kind of job that would be most useful to the community. So I thought I'd put out the call and see if there's anyone who'd be interested in helping put together something I could serve as part of the Wiki, or at least linkable to it.

Such a database would ideally be built around php and MySQL, since those are the things I'm gaining some small degree of familiarity with and could host a bit more easily. It wouldn't have to be very complex. It would take form input so Wiki users can enter their own system info directly (although I don't mind starting the ball rolling by culling the NG for past working configurations) and it would be easily searchable by variety of criteria. Ideally it would be something whose input and output I could integrate into a Wiki page. We could poll our PC wizards to tell us what fields beyond the obvious should be included - for example, BIOS revision # (with URL)? Purchase link for harder-to-find mobos or components?

PM me if you're interested in helping create this resource, and thanks for your interest.

Hi all. The last seven months have flown by (busy both with gigs and with recording on PARIS), and I thought it was high time to give this thread a "still needed" bump. Thanks for looking!

Hello,
I am one of those about to upgrade to a Windows 7 machine. I would love something as simple as suggesting what motherboard, chipset, hard drive, etc to get the ball rolling. Something maybe as simple as "geeks.com has a machine for sale that would be a perfect upgrade for Paris running on Windows 7". I really appreciate all the input for someone is not a PC guy.
