In the middle of rewiring everything properly to prepare for my upcoming mix session.

I've always run the Paris output through my Mackie and then into the Event monitors. I'm thinking that adds a layer of electronics and possible degradation.

If I feed the Events directly from the outputs of the MEC, how well will that work? I seem to remember reading something back in the day about not touching the monitor knob on the C16 because is screws with the output math.

Without buying a passive "Big Knob", how do you guys work monitor volume?

I've been dinking around with Paris for years, feel it's about damn time I got serious and did this right.

I use a passive volume control between my MEC and my amp...no noticeable difference to my ears

I can get the SMAudio Nano Patch for $60. Anything more gooder for less money? I have a soldering iron and I'm not afraid to use it.....

I've Googled lots of plans for them online in the past - but assuming SMAudio's done a decent job of not screwing up the signal path (Very Happy) then $60 seems a price I'd willingly pay to get out of a couple of hours work.

Cool. And based on what I'm finding for prices of decent stepped attenuators, I'm already more than $60 before I even open the box.

Unfortunately, either SM is slow getting these in the supply chain, or Musician's Friend didn't order enough, but I'm backordered. Dang.

I'm going to call my guy at Full Compass and if they have it, see if I can cancel the MF order. Although, it kinda pisses me off that they already charged my account even though they're not ready to ship.... Mad

Let me know how you like it - I might be "going there" myself sometime soon.

Got it last night - Full Compass had it in stock, for $10 less than MF, and I had it in 2 days with normal shipping. I apologized to my guy and promised never to cheat on him again.

For the same money, I got the Nano Patch, 100' of perm install mic cable for wiring a patch bay, and 2 right-angle Neutrik TRS plugs.

Nice.

First impressions - nice build quality, knob is continuously-variable pot and not stepped, but is silky smooth. Will wire up necessary cables tonight and give it a try.

Well, I hooked the NanoPatch up last night, and have to say it does exactly what it says. I didn't notice any coloration, and the mute switch did just that without any pops.

For the money, looks like a great option.

Took me a couple of seconds to get used to attenuation vs. volume - when you're used to faders on a mixer which give you gain, something that starts at unity and goes down from there is a little different.

I was interested, however, to hear the difference between a straight attenuator and my Mackie 1604 - everything sounded much clearer through the NanoPatch. Wasn't aware of the coloration the pres in the Mackie was adding....
