The status displays at the bottom of the dialog box give the user
precise information about the
current status of the board, and the status of all signals. 'SyncCheck'
indicates whether there is
a valid signal for each input ('Lock' or 'No Lock'), or if there is a
valid and synchronous signal
('Sync'). The 'Sync Ref' display shows the input and frequency of the
current sync source.
i still have no led on big ben for output 2 (connected to mec1). this means
output 2 is under-terminated or not connected.

i found the meaning of the terms (lock, sync) in the manual.
i still have no led on big ben for output 2 (connected to mec1). this means
output 2 is under-terminated or not connected.
it must be under-terminated because its obviously connected!

i don't have a word clock option for "pref. sync ref."
you can see the control panel for my card here:
http://www.rme-audio.com/english/download/9652e.pdf
right now i clock mode set to Word Clock and Pref Sync Ref to adat 1 (since
thats where the 9 pin adat connection goes).
yes there is a 75 ohm terminator connected to mec2 wc output.

Set Clock mode to Word Clock
Set Pref Sync ref to the adat port connected to MEC1
Now, what's this aout 9 pin connection??? you haven't
mentioned that before.
If you are trying to clock Paris/Nuendo using the 9 pin port
on the 9652, this will not work. You have to upgrade to the
HDSP version for this to work properly. Ignore (remove) any
9 pin cabling.

>I found that there were stability issues when simultaneously booting both
DAWs receiving sync from a common clock. If I first boot my Paris DAW, open
Paris, then boot my other DAW, it's far less likely to cause a trainwreck.
My hardware is so spread out all over the place that booting into 48kHz
mode, then changing it is such a hassle that I'd rather 'rassle with Paris
occasionally than actually have to get up off my lazy ass and walk back to
my machine room area. I have achieved some rather explosive results when
both DAWs wouldn't lock up and got into a fistfight. Sometimes they both get
really pissed, make this huge crackling noise then after a big *POP*, all my
screens will completely black out and both machines will reboot into the
bios. Those are such precious and memorable moments for me.

I would have to say yes..By adding a nice summing device would do wonders
for apps like Nuendo/SX and PT. It's amazing when I run stero out to a SSL
console how much this alone helps naitives. Even cheaper, Soundcraft's ghost
console makes for a wonderful summing mixer. Dare I say that even our mighty

course this is only one test under one set of conditions. I for one put it
down near the bottom of my favourite mixes. Of course much depends on which
D/A's were used, and which A/D's were used in converting back, and how they
were clocked (was the A/D picking up the sound at a moment "between" samples,
or on a sample?).
I'm interested to hear that your colleague is raving about them though. I'd
be sure to listen myself though before diving in, and do a blind A/B if possible.
The mix I heard lacked clarity through most of the range, seeming especially
unresponsive in both top and bottom end... if I remember correctly. I know
it was on my least favourites in blind testing, and I was honestly expecting
it to come out well above a standard Protools system.
Cheers,
Kim.

monitors until I'm sure that all digital devices have shaken hands and
agreed to play nice with each other rather than come to out fighting. I
think that even with the hack to the .cfg file, the Paris system only feels
comfortable receiving sync from the computer clock via the SCSI HD cable and
having some outsider clock suddenly buggering it up the BNC with a foriegn
signal really pisses it off sometimes

mixer and grew to strongly dislike it. I sort of fooled myself into liking
it at first, but reality eventually set in. The mic amps were noisy, the
EQ was strident and boomy and 120Hz hum was a problem (crappy power supply
filtering if I had to guess). Later I noted on the schematic that TL072/074
opamps were used in the EQ section, which are pretty bad opamps by todays
standard. That is some serious penny pinching going on when you have to
skimp on the opamp. With this console selling at a much lower price per
channel than the S-100, I'd be surprised if it were any good. As a reference
point, my Mackie VLZ mixer was a much better mixer than the S-100 in all
categories.
The Malcom Toft mixer on the other hand, has me very interested. From what
I read it seems to be a great bang for the buck.

I just threw the Trident in there as it seems these boards are competing

If you're in the US, BMG label group has just released "Sounds of the

label roster, exclusively for Target stores. It's actually a pretty good
Christmas record, some old, some new, with some pretty good performances.
Anyway, Phil Vassar threw me a bone, and let me mix his contribution to the
record, "Let's Make a Little Christmas Tonig
