[I posted something in the creator software thread, but I figured it
would be better to start a new thread.]
I'm firmly on the fence about the ole' hardware vs. software argument.
I've got both, and depending upon the day, I use one, the other, or
both. For software verb, I've pretty much only been using Altiverb
lately. It's great for creating spaces, but sometimes I would prefer
some kind of "algorithmic" verb if that makes sense. I use a KSP-8 in
the studio and I recently got a PCM-91, which is really really nice, but
I don't have anything like either of them in software. There's supposed
to be a nice verb for the TC Powercore, but if I'm going to look into
the TC stuff, would it be better to just head straight for an M3000?
How many of you guys are still using hardware verb units? Which ones?
Are you switching to software any time soon?

Doug-
I've been asking the same Q lately.
I have an M3000 and while it's obviously more work to program
than any software verb, I've been unable to find any software that
does the same job. The Altiverb seems quite good, but you really
can't tell in demo mode because of the ever present ringing bell.
Space Designer (with Logic) is also OK.
I would love to convert the M3000 into another pre and use Altiverb
instead, but I'm not convinced...
I really like the PCM 91 too. In fact the lower priced Lexis are better to
my ears than
software verbs. Maybe the algos are fine, but the clocking is problematic?
The hardware verbs seem to have a solid image with smoother tails.

The Silverspike R2 is also a nice and inexpensive sw verb-

Mostly outboard here--KSP8, M3000, D2 and a
Lex PCM80 mainly, with a rack full of interesting
low rent alternatives for fun stuff...

Quantec Yardstick, Roland R-880, Lexi PCM-91, Sony V77 and TC D-2 delay
here. I use the UAD-1 Plate 140 and some of the UAD-1 delays also and the
PSP 42 delay....... that's it.

Hey Doug! Speaking of reverbs, did you ever get in touch with Matthew Craig?
Dimitrios said something about having his email address now. Sure would
be nice to have another Paris reverb!

box can give.
But to be honest, most time of the day I spend in the studio and I got pretty
spoiled over the years. Besides the M3000 at home I use the M5000 and TC6000
in the studio and regarding the lexicon verbs I think I used them all from
the LXP1
up to the 960. We recently sold the 224L which was a great tool 20-25 years
ago, but since long we replaced it by the 480 and the in 2005 added 960.
The M3000 does very well compared to the high end stuff..... but there's
still quite a difference (not only the price:) in fullness and depth. The
M4000 could be an alternative because it's got some of the 6000 algorythms
and is in the pricerange of the (discontinued) M3000, but I never checked
it out.
I haven't worked with Altiverb so I don't know about that one, but sometimes
I grab a verb from spacedesigner to create some incidental FX which would
take much more time to setup in a hardware unit, but I never use any softwareverb
for ongoing instruments (drums-keys)) or vocals. Your mix gets "cloudy" very
easily and untransparent. To summ it up, my preferred boxes are: TC6000-Lex300-Lex480
in this order. And if your budget won't let you go there, you might try to
get a
used M5000 that IMO comes closest to the magic of the 6000.
All the best with your choice

Oops, apparently the M3000 is not discontinued but the M5000 certainly is.

I'm doing a weird combo of both. I use a Lexicon PCM-91 w/ MECs A and B
Y'd into the analog inputs and the digi output into MEC A. I also have
my old G4 w/ Digital Performer in the studio and I use the Waves IR-1 reverb,
currently patched thru analog I/O with an 828 MK.II. I've been trying to
make the ADAT I/O work into the Paris ADAT cards, but my MIDIMAN DigiPatch
won't let this happen and I haven't had time to fool with it yet. There's
about 13ms of latency in and out of the second computer, but for reverb it's
a non-issue. I'm planning to try using UAD-1 FX in the G4, but haven't tried
it yet.

Gantt,
I used one of these (actually three of them cascaded and interpatched) for
years. If it's not working on your optical ports, it's probably because you
have another device on the same numbered coax patch point. If that's the
case, all you have to do is set the patch point with the coax device to the
off position in the control panel and the optical signal will come through.
You've got my # if you want to give me a call. I'll be glad to help you
toubleshoot this.

Why do we need a signed request letter? If Dimitrios has his email, just
pass it along and I'll ask Matt if it's ok for me to release the verb to
the public.
It's been years since the planned release. I'm 90+% sure that Matt would
let the reverb out after all this time as long as no one bothered him about
bugs (if there are any).
