Hi Everyone

I'm building a new house and want to wire some in wall speakers myself. I'm
probably going to use speakercraft aim 7-3's in the ceiling and am looking
for a place to get 16 gauge 4 and 2 conductor speaker wire at a decent
price. I'm open to other speaker suggestions if anyone has some ideas. I'm
really crunched on time because the drywall is going in shortly.

Thanks for the input.

Barry

Since it's a fixed install you could use solid electrical copper wire.
Maybe that would be good?

Home Depot should carry even 14g or 12g copper sold as speaker wire in bulk.

Regards,

El Miguel

If it is going in the walls you need an FT4 fire rated cable. Find a
local electrical supplier and get either 16 or 14Ga stranded, tinned,
twisted pair, non-shielded , gray PVC jacketed cable. If you need 4
conductors, run two pieces.

Conversely ~if~ you have conduit already run to those places, you don't have
to get the more expensive jacketed PVC fire retardent sleeves. But 'only' if
you have conduit already. Otherwise, you want to do exactly what David said.
In the unfortunate event of a fire, the last thing you need is to be
unconcious on the floor because of inhalation of chemicals from burned wire
jacket while the blaze takes you over. It's kinda bad for your long term
health to be a s'mores.

If you're not sure, ask a pro at the place you purchase the wire. Not
something you want to play with.
