I just got the DAC-1 (on Digipatch unit #2) to accept a digital output
signal over the matrix from my HDSP outputs that are patched into Digipatch
unit #3.
I've also got the Mytek AD/DA on Digipatch unit #3 passing signal back and
forth to the Paris spdif I/O on Digipatch Unit #1.
I have a few format converters here and there on this system, but basically,
what this means is twofold:
1. Somewhat important-If I can get this working the way I want (and now I
believe I can), I will have achieved digital routing aims with componentry
that cost me around $600.00 total. A FriendChip system that would accomplish
this same scenario would cost around $2000.00
2. Very important-It is a MAJOR kludge. I mean, this is a kludge of the
first magnitude. The kludgegods are smiling today...... and to top it off,
it's being done with 3 x digital patchbays, which, in keeping with so much
other stuff in my studio, is no longer being made.
Plus.......since it's old and discontinued, I'll bet if I A/B'ed the
Digipatch units against the $2000.00 FriendChip unit, the Digipatch would
sound more *analog*
