I am soooo pissed off, I can't see straight.

About a month ago, Verizon decided to jump on the "Save the
Children!!!!" bandwagon and killed most of the usenet groups on their
news server, using as an excuse the old "well, there have been
examples of child porn on there".....

Yeah, right. If you're going to use that excuse, why carry the
internet at all, you idiots???

Oh, and they're also jumping on the "We have to stop piracy!!!"
bandwagon as well.

They've eliminated all but what's referred to as "The Big 8"
hierarchies, which means that all of the alt groups are gone, along
with a bunch of the other groups.

Roughly 90% of what I read. That means that I can no longer access
alt.audio.pro.live.sound. Yeah, that's saving the children.

I'm wiling to lay odds that Verizon won't reimburse me the $25 a month
I would have to pay a premium news service like Giganews to get back
the access I originally signed up for...

Bastards. Cowardly, greedy, stupid bastards. They're just using the
"rallying cries" as an excuse to cover up the fact that they're
jumping on the chance to cut the amount of servers they need to use
and the amount of bandwidth they have to supply.

And it's not just Verizon. I've been reading that the NY attorney
general has scared a lot of ISP's into killing usenet.

Just like the TSA and Homeland Security. "Fight the War on Global
Terrorism!!! " So, we have to strip naked and can't carry anything
larger than a shot glass full of shampoo when we go through the
airport. And they have the legal right to seize your laptop, cell
phone, cameras, camcorders, pda's, whatever can store data -- without
any real reason, just because they don't like you. And they can take
that stuff to an undisclosed location, hold it indefinitely, and you
can't do anything about getting it back. They just keep coming up
with more ways to make it impossible for us to travel or go anywhere,
all in the name of "Fighting Terrorism!!!"

I'm really starting to hate the world.

That's ridiculous. Can you get a different ISP?

As for the rest, that's gotta change. Write your congresscritters and vote!

$25/month for Giganews? Try Forte's APN - $2.95/month. Much better deal...

OK, Paul, take a deep breath. Another. Another. OK, wait, don't pass out.

Now, right a letter to the CEO of Verizon and tell him/her exactly why
you are leaving their previously satisfactory service. Then find another
ISP.

Start loving the world.

Rejoice Paul, for while it is true that you may not carry a jello pudding
pop through the TSA lines at the airport, you can still get through with a
santa-sized bag of electronic circuits of completely unknown origin and
functionality and then board any commercial aircraft you'd like... without
question.... just be sure to turn them all off during take-off and landing.

It's true! I've done it. While I was working on a TSA project a few years
back, I went through security with a bag containing a black box (literally)
with one red switch on it, eight optical cables coming out of it and eight
optical motion sensors on the ends. We called it the octopus.

When they asked me what it was, I told them it was a prototype sensor system
for integration with an EDS machine. When they asked me what an EDS machine
is, I told them "the thing that just scanned my luggage and found the thing
you are holding!!!!"

ahahahahahah! That's funny! And I assumed they didn't take it! Although
they've taken many of my small butane (harmless) lighters and my precious
nose hair cutter scissors... Day's Mean! And this was in Tampa after flying
through 2 other American airports and crossing the International Date Line
because I was coming from Japan...
