Hey fellow Parisians,

I've got a few mobile recording requests and was thinking that a small system with two EDS cards would get me 32 mobile channels of recording and fulfill the needs of the requests for mobile recording I've had without needing to disturb the system in the studio. Looks like there are some Intel H87 chipset motherboards that have multiple PCI slots that could be used for this. LGA 1150 socket. Anyone have any experience or thoughts with a modern motherboard and not using a PCI Express adapter chassis?

Also, I've seen mention of checking the PCI slot wattage. Have not found a source to look that up on. The owner's manual for one H87 I looked at did not seem to say anything about PCI slots and power.

Appreciate any thoughts or sharing of any combinations that did or did not work.

The PCI spec requires that 25 watts be available per slot. The really cheap PCI adapters don't live up to this, but I'd be surprised if a motherboard didn't.

I hope this helps.

Mike,

Thanks for the feedback. That makes sense that the concern was only about PCI expansion chassis.
