I’ve been playing around with Nebula3 today. This is very promising software.
Could even be important. A free version is available.

The developers are working on CUDA (Compute Unified Device Architecture) and
GPUFFTW (think UAD-1 card on steroids). These technologies could solve the
load issues at a reasonable price point.
Currently, my Intel Quad running under Boot Camp can handle a dozen or so
instances on a 40 track mix. If CUDA fizzles, this could be the incentive
I need to move to the eight-core or the next-gen Mac, which is rumored to
be almost double the CPU power of the eight-core.
Nebula is capable of some “big smile” sounds. Each time I play with it I
am more impressed, and I’ve been playing with an early version of Nebula2-free
for several months.
This could be the best software investment I’ve ever made. and I can't wait
for the sampling software - W-Deconvolver.
