Hi

I'm wondering if anyone has some ideas for an inexpensive yet passable home
speaker setup. I'm in the process of building a house and thought this might
be useful. I'm probably going to try and have four separate stations. I'm
looking for wall speakers, amp, etc. I don't want to break the bank at all.
I'm just looking to get something that just barely passes the quality
inspection.

You've definitely got my price point down. How would you describe the sound
you get.

You might just go onto ebay and buy some older studio monitors. I use my
old monitors all around the house - Peaveys (don't laugh, these are
actually pretty darn nice), Tannoy PBM8s, Smithlines.

When putting together my home theater, I decided to try a brand sold
on the internet called Fluance. I bought their surrounds and center
channel, and am very happy with these. Check out www.fluance.com for
the details.

My main speakers in my two stereos, however, are vintage a/d/s models.
I have a pair of L1230 speakers in one setup, and a pair of L1290s in
the other. These show up in the ebay/audiogon world no and then for
anywhere from $400-1000. To me, they are pretty awesome.

Finally, my current computer speakers (for my general purpose machine,
not the DAW) are a pair of NHT A20s. The rock some serious booty, and
I got them for a great price, but they are tough to find.

I think Deej will echo my sentiments on the a/d/s and NHTs.

I'm a big fan of Paradigm speakers for the sensibly priced hi fi crew.

Big time bang for the buck, and they do in wall speakers as well if you're
building from scratch.

Sanbar,

Price performance pretty good. Mids and highs definitely stronger than
Lows, but I haven't added a sub yet (once again casual listening).

If you're going soffit-mounted, I recommend a pair of used UREI 813s.
That's living, Baby!

PS make sure your wife knows she has to match the aqua-colored horn with
an aqua lava lamp, to really pull off the look.
