This woman (Bhutto) is dead now, but in this interview with David Frost from
last month, at about 6:10, she says, " . . . Omar Sheik, the man who
murdered Usama bin Laden . . . "
Huh? Bin Laden was murdered? If so, isn't this NEWS? Why on earth didn't
Sir Frost say, "Whoa, hang on a minute . . . you just said Omar Sheik
murdered Usama bin Laden?" If Bhutto misspoke, which it doesn't really look
like she did, isn't this something that should've been clarified?
I've been trying to ignore politics, but maybe that's the wrong thing to do,
things being the way they are in the world right now. I don't know.
Thoughts?

Bin Laden's in that family

Well, that is the question, I guess. But it's still pretty bizarre that he
didn't question it. Or if he did question it, why would that be edited out?
I hope she misspoke, because it would be pretty creepy think bin Laden's
been dead for some time and nobody told us.
Not that anything would surprise me much anymore.

There is a pretty strong consensus that bin Laden is still alive. He has released
audio tapes that discuss very recent events. Yes, they could be fakes, and
there are certainly reasons why people in power would prefer bin Laden to
remain alive even if he isn't, but people I trust think they are genuine.
That's enough for me since this is a case where I have to rely on expert
opinion.
One great mystery to me is why the US press is so reverent about Bhutto.
My personal guess is that it's because she was what so many US newspeople
wish they were; pretty, eloquent, rich, on TV, and educated at Harvard. Bhutto
and her family were, even by third world potentate standards, shamelessly
avaricious and corrupt.
I hope Pakistan can weather this storm. It has been grossly underserved by
its leadership.

Sarah-
there are lots of alternate universes that people live in.
This is one of them:
http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/osama_dead.html
I got this link in about two seconds by googling "osama funeral"

Interesting. Well, apparently Omar Sheikh has been in jail since 2002 for
killing Daniel Pearl, but if it were true that bin Laden's been dead since
2001, that wouldn't rule Sheikh out. It also makes sense, though, that a
diabetic with kidney failure is not going to last long without access to
good medical care, which would be hard to get if one has to remain in
hiding.
Not that it makes a big difference in the broad scheme of things whether bin
Laden is or isn't alive, it's just sad that a person can't believe anything
anymore. "Truth" is owned, like everything else, and I hate the fact that
when we're presented with conflicting "truths" we just have to decide who's
lying based only on our own viewpoints, or gut feelings.
This is why I've been trying to ignore politics, but it's hard, because the
more these untrustworthy snakes in power screw things up, the worse off all
of us are. I wish Oregon would secede from the Union. Or maybe Washington,
Oregon, and California could become a country. We could call it Oceania. Oh
wait . . . we're already in Oceania . . .
OK, I'll stop now. Back to the recliner. I'm "retreading" the first season
of "Deadwood." Good stuff. :)
