Hi Thad,

All the time. Vista business 64 Service pack 1. Uses only a little bit more CPU with the audio programs than XP did.
Uses more ram obviously than XP does but of course it does things differently than XP does.

8 gig of ram
3x uad cards
fireface 800 128 buffer all the time with UADs. I can set it lower when not using Uads.
Works great and i use it for gaming and internet stuff!!!!

I have been playing with reaper on a firepod with this laptop. No problems
here. Not serious production by any means :-)

But not audio, right? If I want to do Vista it's Sonar or nothing, correct?

I'm being forced to start to deal. Kicking and screaming. I wish I could just
do Debian for my life and XP for my music but it looks like the hardware/chipsets/etc
are forcing my hand.

No Vista drivers for my Creamware card for sure . . .

not... yet.... but it's coming. I have a work laptop that I can load up
whatever I need on, and I've really been thinking about tacking a firewire
interface on it and using it for a little audio stuff here and there. It
already has my soundweb designer and system architect audio control stuff on
it, so it's only a few more steps......

Hi Thad,
All current programs work in Vista. I don't have any trouble running audio apps in Vista 64.
Drivers are the big thing. Luckily all my stuff has great Vista drivers.
USB Midi is a big problem right now. Not many devices have 64 bit drivers.
Only MOTU and companies that use the USB Audio Devise generic drivers will work.

Sonar is the last program on earth I would for anything but thats just me. :)

Cubase 4 32 and or 64 bit work great. So does Samplitude, Reaper, Saw. Ableton is a bit weird on it though.
But I think it is the way the current Ableton handles multi-core and how it talks to ASIO thats causing it.

The 64 bit version of Sonar and Cubase are still buggy.
But only because they have to run the 32bit emulation crap sense so many of the plug-in developers are dragging their feet.

HI Deej,
Yes it does seem conclusive that using a Lynx card is a bad idea. :0

So everything works great, except plug-ins. And audio interfaces. Oh, and
stuff is buggy. Other than that, Vista is killer! Spoken as a true salesman
;-)

I guess I'll dual boot for now and get my feet wet. My new machine will have
4GB of RAM and I'd like to start using it if I can.

Thanks Chris,

Cool thing is you can install Vista 64 without a product key and extend the activation time to 120days if needed.
Unlike XP you can actually get all the windows update stuff without activating it.

Here is the web site you want to go to for Vista tips that actually work.
www.tweakhound.com

His XP page kicks butt too but you already know all that stuff.

No doubt. :^)

I'm glad to see he's now working on energy issues. Check the link at
http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2008/08/03/095241.html - it's a
speech he gave at the plug-in vehicle conference. It's good to see
people with his type of experience and knowledge getting involved.

It looks like that article might be a bit dated. Is there something written
