The most stable sync I have achieved with Paris as master and Cubase SX as
slave is to run WC cables of even length (I'm using 2' Zaolla cables) from
the master clock module to the MEC(s). Then, to clock the RME card(s), just
run serial cables from the MEC ADAT sync out(s) to the RME ADAT sync inputs,
choose ADAT as the sync source in the RME control panel and it just works,
every time..........and that's really saying something because it's
reallllllll easy to destabilize this kind of system. Just one glitch and the
whole thing comes tumbling down. Simple is good...........and sooooo hard
for me to accept.
My current clocking situation has the Lucid GenX6 as master clock now and
the only deviation from the above scenario is that I've got a 10' WC cable
running from one of the Lucid clock outs to my Mytek ADC which used to be
the master clock. I need it closer to the mix position and a long cable run
from the Mytek when using it as master, to the rest of the system wasn't
quite as stable as slaving the Mytek to the Lucid clock with the longer
cable and slaving the MECs to the Lucid with short, high quality WC cables.
Since the MECs are clocking the RME's via ADAT, it's essential to have the
lock between the master and MECs as stable as possible.The Lucid has a very
good clock. I notice no difference in sound between it and the Mytek when
using the Mytek as master clock.
Damn!!!!......everything is working so well now.............what next? (nyuk
nyuk!!!)........o'yeah......I've got a mix to do!!!

Hey deej, I thought at one time you were thinking that clocking with the mytek
as master sounded noticably better. Was that just wax in your ears? :o)

The external clock sounds noticably better than the Paris clock. The Mytek
does add a bit of additional clarity to the conversion process and I may go
back to it. I'm still testing. The Lucid is doing a fine job right now
clocking the system during mixing and though I'm using AD/DA conversion with
the Multiface parched to external gear in Cubase when clocked to the Lucid,
the sound I'm getting is very good.

.............and when removing a heatsink from a CPU, be sure to release the
mobo zif handle or you will bend the pins on the CPU. If you do this, take a
credit card and carefully run it between the rows of pins.........best to do
this under one of those lamps with a magnifier. If none of them have broken
off the surface this will straighten them out and the CPU should drop back
in the zif slots on the CPU mount. If you don't have a credit card that is
thick enough, get yourself a knife blade of the proper width and flip it
upside down and use it in the same way, but be vewwy vewwy careful not to
score the undersurface surface of the CPU.

Well, I've discovered that you can't really have too many Pultecs or CPU
cycles, so it's always a good idea to find an excuse to
