I'm getting ready to do some vocal OD's on a punk project I tracked here.
I've done a few rock'esque and pop mixes but mostly I've been dealing with
acoustic instruments these days. Here's a very rough mix with the singer
playing/singing in the same room with the drums. I had her guitar (panned
right if facing stage) mic'ed up in an isolation cabinet and she was singing
into an old '58 over the (very loud) kit. I'm sure it was hard for her to
even hear herself in the cans but given the circumstances, I think she did a
good job. Not sure what kind of mic I'm going to use for her voice on the
dubs and what freq's I'm going to massage on the guitars to get more
separation so that they will sound balancd and sit in the mix. This is a fun
project but a very "brown sound"......something I'm not accustomed to
working with. I'm going to have to tune my antennae in a different way for
this one. I've already had one suggestion about cutting the rythym guitar
freqs between 1-4k which I am going to try. I was kinda' fried last night
when I bounced this down. This morning it sounds a bit heavy on the right
channel. Any suggestions would be welcome.
